Adds xce_compose_version_ex() as a sibling of the existing, completely
untouched xce_compose_version(): when dirty_fingerprint is non-empty, it
strips a trailing -dirty from the commit field (anchored tail-slice
strcmp, not a substring search) and appends -<dirty_fingerprint> instead;
when empty/NULL, it delegates directly to the original function, so
output is structurally guaranteed byte-identical -- including the
Requirement 5.2 fallback case (dirty tree, fingerprint computation
failed) where commit_id's own pre-existing -dirty suffix already signals
"modified" with no new sentinel needed.
No main.c call sites touched -- consuming daemons (tasks 3.2/3.3) still
call the original xce_compose_version() and will switch to the new
function themselves.
Verified independently by review, full lib suite on both debug and ASAN
profiles: 301 tests, 0 failures, 0 ignored; suffix-anchoring, buffer
safety, and the empty-fingerprint delegation path all confirmed correct
by hand-tracing the implementation, not just trusting the test results.

Adds xce_version_field()/xce_compose_version() (utils.h/utils.c) to
compose a version string carrying commit id + build time, rendering
"unknown" for either field when its underlying meson-supplied define is
empty -- ready for controller/scheduler/worker to consume.
MK_VERSION/STR (the pre-existing, compile-time-only macro pair) can't
express this empty-to-"unknown" substitution at the preprocessor level,
so this is a runtime mechanism instead. Round 1 review REJECTED an
earlier version of this task for silently orphaning MK_VERSION/STR
(the task explicitly asked to "extend" them) and for leaving an
undocumented architectural trap: argp_program_version is a file-scope
const char* initialized at compile time, which cannot call a runtime
function -- consuming code must instead compute into a static buffer
inside main() and assign the pointer before argp_parse() runs. Round 2
adds an explicit SUPERSEDED doc comment on MK_VERSION/STR plus NOTE FOR
CALLERS guidance covering both points, and was APPROVED.
Also expands task 3.2's boundary to include controller/testsuite/test.c
(a third MK_VERSION/STR call site discovered during review) so no
caller of the superseded macro survives implementation.
5 new unit tests in test_utils.c (RED->GREEN, TDD).
Task 3.1/13 of build-time-versioning.

makeGroup()'s existing-group update path (hit whenever a config-push
re-applies a group name that already has members, e.g. a retried config
push during controller failover) released xce_g_member_t.u.name via
FREEUP() (plain free()). u.name is allocated by makeString(), an
rtti-managed, refcounted pointer that is not a malloc()-base address --
freeing it directly corrupts the heap. group_killer() in the same file
already releases the identical field correctly via dereference().
Switch both FREEUP(m->u.name) call sites to dereference(m->u.name) to
match. Add a regression test that re-applies config for the same group
name twice, reproducing the exact ASAN bad-free at group.c:234 pre-fix.
This is the root cause of the reproducible xce_scheduler
"free(): invalid pointer" SIGABRT crashes seen during 3-attempt
controller-failover config-push retries (8 confirmed core dumps).

xcecli_jobsubmit() could return rc>=0 (success) while leaving its *jobid
output parameter at 0, reproducible under concurrent client load
immediately after a fresh single-node election (~1-3/9 clients per round
in the original repro).
Root cause: XCECLI_FAILOVER_CALL's idempotent-replay rule
(client_failover.c's xce_failover_classify) normalizes a retried resend
that hits the server's EEXIST/inflight-collision rejection into overall
success -- but that rejection reply carries no payload
(handle_jobsubmit's EEXIST branches reply with RequestReply_data_nodata,
job.c), so xce_jobsubmit() never populates *jobid on the winning
attempt, nor did it on the earlier failing attempt (raw status was
already negative).
Adds jobsubmit_finalize_jobid() (client_internal.h/client.c), called
from xcecli_jobsubmit() right after XCECLI_FAILOVER_CALL returns. Sets
*jobid = submit->jobid (the client-generated id already on the wire --
the controller commits/echoes this exact value on every genuine success
reply, bug-786/job.c:1439) whenever the overall call succeeded,
otherwise leaves it untouched. Placed at the jobsubmit-specific wrapper
layer, not the generic classify/decide layer, which stays fully generic.
3 new socket-free unit tests in test_libxce_retry.c (following this
codebase's direct-state-simulation style for I/O-adjacent logic).
Live-validated: full ASAN rebuild clean, libxce test suite 1/1 OK with
all 3 new tests passing, and a 5-round/45-client concurrent-submit
repro against a live single-node cluster showed 0 "no clean ack"
failures (vs. 1-3/9 per round pre-fix).

XCECLI_FF_CALL (backing xcecli_heartbeat) can silently rotate+reconnect
the transport entirely inside a single call and still return success, so
heartbeat.go's failure-to-success transition detector could never observe
a reconnect that completes within one heartbeat tick -- the common case,
since elections finish in single-digit seconds against a default 30s
interval. apiserver's application-level rejoin never fired on a real
idle-period failover, and job pushes silently stopped reaching it.
Adds a monotonic reconnect_gen counter to endpoint_t (netio.h), bumped by
xce_ctx_reconnect() (xcectx.c) on every successful reconnect regardless of
trigger path. heartbeat.go now compares this generation every tick instead
of tracking success/failure transitions. Re-validated live against task
5.2's exact scenario (apiserver alone, zero write traffic): rejoin fired
22s after a primary kill, 12s after election.
Reopens and closes out component-failover-adoption's own NO-GO -> GO
validation cycle from 2026-08-15.

Simplification per review feedback on e3b3ffa: a generic schema-driven
unit field touched the capnp wire schema (2 structs), C structs
(xce_resource_t/xce_resval_t), resobj.c's deep-copy/destroy, opget.c's
reply-build lookup, resources.yaml/resources.schema.json, and mapping.py
-- real cross-cutting cost for a mechanism only one resource (maxmem)
actually needs today.
Reverted all of that. The controller CLI (test.c) now just knows
"maxmem" is bytes-valued via a small explicit is_bytes_valued_resource()
name list, and adaptively picks the best-fit human unit at display time
(format_bytes_human, unchanged) -- same observable behavior (resval/
workerlist render maxmem as e.g. "30.90 GB"), zero wire schema surface.
Regenerated the xceadmin golden fixture back to its pre-unit-field size
(5304 bytes, exactly matching the size right after the mxj-only fix,
confirming a clean, complete removal).
Verified: 1095/1095 controller_unit_test (3 runs; one hit the
pre-existing flaky segfault already logged as bug-1553, unrelated),
228/228 xceadmin pytest, clean rebuild of lib/controller/xceadmin/xce_test.

Three bugs found while diagnosing a live controller log, all in the
worker resource-value path:
1. Every host relying on the documented hosts.yaml auto-detect default
(no max_slot, meaning "use CPU count") got 0 scheduling slots,
permanently blocking the scheduler from placing jobs on it. mxj is
UInt32 on the wire and can't carry the schema's -1 sentinel; mapping.py
worked around this by leaving it unset, which defaults to 0 -- and 0 is
never < 0, so apply_join_state()'s auto-detect fallback never fired.
Fixed by encoding the sentinel as 0xFFFFFFFF, which the controller's
`int mxj` field reinterprets back to -1 via its existing implicit
uint32_t->int conversion. No C-side or wire schema change needed for
this part; the fallback itself was already correct but had zero test
coverage for a negative mxj, now added.
2. update_resvals()/update_resval_list() logged the failure reason via
PERROR, which reads process-global errno -- but update_resval()'s
failure paths return raw negative codes directly and never touch
errno, so the controller log filled with misleading "update_resval:
Success" / "update_resval: Resource temporarily unavailable" lines
instead of the real reason. Fixed to decode the actual rc via
xce_strerror_r and name the failing resource.
3. maxmem is canonically stored/wired as raw bytes but had no unit
metadata, so resval/workerlist printed it as a bare number that read
as garbage (e.g. workerlist's fixed-width columns visually smeared a
multi-GB byte count across the MaxCPU/MaxMem headers). Added an
optional `unit` field to the Resource/ResourceVal capnp structs (and
xce_resource_t/xce_resval_t/resources.yaml) so resval and workerlist
can render a human-readable value (e.g. "30.90 GB") while the stored
value stays raw bytes -- display-only, every other resource unaffected.
Regenerated the xceadmin golden fixture (fixtures/full/expected.bin)
twice: once for the mxj sentinel encoding change, once for the new
Resource.unit field growing every resource's wire size by one pointer
slot. Both diffs verified byte-for-byte isolated to exactly the expected
change before regenerating.
Verified: 1095/1095 controller_unit_test (stable across repeated runs),
229/229 xceadmin pytest, clean rebuild of lib/controller/xceadmin/xce_test.
Two related findings logged to .wolf/buglog.json but deliberately not
fixed here (out of scope per discussion): a pre-existing flaky segfault
in the combined controller_unit_test binary, and maxswap/maxtmp being
hardcoded stub values on the worker side.

xce_cluster_config_to_client_config() converts a validated candidate
list into a fully-populated xce_client_config_t, copying candidates
in order with no special-casing for a single candidate. The
truncate-with-warning safety net stays in place as a defensive guard
now that N_MAX_MASTERS and MAX_HA_CANDIDATES match.
Also removes a WARN check in xce_cluster_config_validate() that
became unreachable dead code once task 1.1 reconciled the two
candidate-count constants (both checks tested the same field against
the same constant with no mutation between them).
Task 1.2 of component-failover-adoption (Requirement 1 AC1-AC7).
N_MAX_MASTERS (client.h) now derives from config.h's MAX_HA_CANDIDATES
instead of an independently-maintained literal (3 vs 4 previously).
Fixes worker's and scheduler's hardcoded `> 3` startup checks to
reference the constant symbolically, and updates the client-retry
test fixture so it doesn't exercise an uninitialized 4th slot.
Task 1.1 of component-failover-adoption (Requirement 1 AC7).
controller_unit_test crashed deterministically in write_WalCatchupEntry
(test_wal_catchup_append_term_fields_round_trip) -- the same bug class
as bug-1504 (SnapshotData.internalState): this codebase's capnpc-c
backend silently no-ops Data-field encoding in generated encode_XXX()
composite helpers without zero-initializing the caller's local struct
first, leaving an uninitialized capn_ptr written onto the wire.
Confirmed zero production exposure before fixing: xce_wal_batch_encode_
raw()/wal_entry_to_wire() (request.c) never call the generic
encode_WalCatchupEntry() at all -- they memset() their own struct and
call write_WalCatchupEntry() directly with every field hand-set, so
this was 100% test-only exposure (grepped every caller of the generic
encode/decode pair; only the crashing test uses it).
Fix mirrors bug-1504: WalCatchupEntry.payload (@2) and batchPayloads
(@10) switched from Data to List(UInt8) in controller.capnp (new
batchPayloadsLen @11 companion; payload reuses the existing
wirePayloadLen @9), typemap.h's wal_catchup_entry_t field types
updated, and request.c's extract_data_bytes() widened to take a raw
capn_ptr (it already only used .p internally) so its call sites work
regardless of which Data-shaped wrapper the generated accessor
returns now. batchPayloads' single-top-level-blob shape confirmed
this does not reintroduce bug-847's per-element cross-segment
far-pointer loss -- that issue is inherent to per-element data
regardless of Data vs List(UInt8) spelling.
Strengthened test_wal_catchup_append_term_fields_round_trip with real
payload/batchPayloads content assertions -- previously never
exercised, since the test's src fields were left NULL.
Verified: controller suite 3/3 (was 2/3, crashing), scheduler suite
unaffected at 37/37 (unrelated schema area).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01JPPXeKSUXUqcqvzNXY1rzJ
Adds the spec's one and only src/controller/ change: a new
case OPCode_schedAdmin in myreq_handler() (cluster.c) that mirrors the
existing OPCode_upgradeConfig case -- primary-only gate, explicit reply
on every path, stateless pass-through with no WAL entry.
Forwards to the scheduler via a new xce_schedadmin_req() (async send,
mirrors xce_fetchfile_req) and blocks the vtask thread on a condvar with
a 5s deadline while holding c->sched.lock for the round-trip, matching
this spec's own research-phase design decision (parity with
OPCode_upgradeConfig's no-RBAC posture, blocking wait accepted for
low-frequency admin traffic). A new branch in the existing
OPCode_reply case demuxes the scheduler's SchedAdminReply to a
process-global single-slot pending-waiter mechanism, serialized by
c->sched.lock, matching job.c's existing fetchfile-proxy pattern.
Adversarial review independently traced double-free/cleanup, the
timeout/signal race, and reply-opcode demux correctness against source;
found and a follow-up round closed a narrow-window leak via a carefully
lock-ordered unlock->unregister->relock sequence (avoiding an AB-BA
inversion against schedadmin_signal()'s lock acquisition order).
New test_sched_admin_dispatch.c drives the real myreq_handler via the
existing myreq_handler_for_test seam: not-primary rejection (proven via
a poison-pointer sched.ep that would crash if forwarding were ever
attempted), not-connected rejection, and a genuine two-thread round-trip
test exercising the real signal/demux path.
Controller suite 3/3 (1090/1090 assertions), scheduler suite 26/26
unaffected, clang-format clean.
Implements the scheduler's first request-reply opcode (OPCode_schedAdmin).
sched_handle_admin_request() (handler.c) decodes SchedAdminRequest and
dispatches by action: recordStatus answers synchronously (pure read);
recordStart/recordStop are deferred onto the existing pend_updates queue
(XCE_SCHED_OP_ADMIN_RECORD) since sched_record_start()'s snapshot call
requires the session_active==0 precondition only guaranteed on the driver
thread, not the async request-handling thread. driver.c's
xce_sched_driver_translate_pending_events() performs the deferred action
and sends the reply via a new xcecli_reply_schedadmin() (client.c/client.h),
correlated by seq copied before the original request is freed.
Adversarial review found a genuine cross-thread race: sched_record_status()
read driver-owned recording state (including a pointer the driver thread
frees) from the vtask thread with no lock -- the codebase's first such
race, missed by ASan (doesn't detect races). Fixed with a dedicated
record_lock scoped strictly to in-memory field access, never spanning file
I/O; sched_record_status() now strdup()s under the lock instead of
returning a borrowed live pointer. Verified with a real two-thread
lock-contention test (independently confirmed non-vacuous by removing the
lock and observing the test fail) plus a deterministic use-after-free
reproduction.
26/26 scheduler suite, clang-format clean.
Build the live 3-node chaotic-multi-kill config-upgrade soak scenario
(run-ha-soak.sh --config-upgrade) required by Requirements 4.1, 4.3, 6.1,
6.4. This needed genuinely new client-side infrastructure: a hand-rolled
capnp send path for OP_upgradeConfig (the auto-generated encoder is a
no-op for its Data fields, worked around the same way
xce_replconfigpush_req_raw already does), plus cmd_hostctrl/cmd_upgradeconfig
CLI commands.
Building and running this live surfaced two real production bugs, both
fixed here:
- bug-1468: an unrelated prior commit inverted OPCode_upgradeConfig's
primary/standby dispatch guard in cluster.c, making config upgrades
unreachable from any network client.
- bug-1469: apply_committed_entry's WAL_CONFIG_MARKER case never called
config_activate_committed(), so the node that originates a config
upgrade never refreshed its own in-memory state as part of committing
it. Killing that node before some later, unrelated event happened to
refresh it left its checkpoint permanently stale -- the first live,
empirical reproduction of bug-857's originally hypothesized failure
mode. Fixed by activating before the marker-triggered checkpoint write,
since checkpoint content is built from live runtime tables that only
reflect the reload after activation runs.
A separate, narrower checkpoint divergence (bug-1471, not config-related)
remains open and still blocks a clean soak PASS -- task 8.6 stays
in-progress until it's resolved.
controller.capnp declared `struct Data $C.mapname("xce_data_t")` (an
OPCode_get query-result tagged union) at file scope, which shadows
Cap'n Proto's builtin Data blob type for every later `: Data` field in
the same file. This silently miscompiled 7 fields across 6 structs as
a struct-pointer type instead of a raw byte blob: UpgradeConfigRequest
.sha256/.bytes, ReplConfigReply.sha256/.bytes, ReplConfigPushRequest
.sha256/.bytes, ReplEnvelope.payload, SnapshotTransfer's chunk
payload, WalCatchupEntry.payload/.batchPayloads, and CtrlHelloRequest
.key. Production C code had already routed around it for years via
hand-rolled raw capn_ptr manipulation (see request.c's own comments);
nothing before now needed the generated codec/accessors to actually
work for these fields.
Renamed the local struct to XceData (capnp-level name only; the
$C.mapname("xce_data_t") C typedef is unchanged) and explicitly
repointed getdata/pushmsg at XceData by name, since those two fields
correctly want the local tagged union. Updated every derived
generated-identifier reference across 19 hand-written files spanning
controller, lib, scheduler, and the Go apiserver/xcecli CGo bindings.
Fixed 5 call sites in lib/request.c that had been typed against the
old workaround alias but now legitimately receive the correct
capn_data type (a pure type-name swap -- Data_ptr/XceData_ptr and
capn_data share the identical {capn_ptr p} layout).
Verified via full rebuild+test: lib (1/1), controller (3/3, incl. the
job-array push regression tests), scheduler (15/15), Go apiserver +
xcecli (all packages green), and a direct pycapnp round-trip proving
UpgradeConfigRequest.sha256/.bytes now encode/decode correctly.
Bug: bug-1461 (.wolf/buglog.json). Unblocks admin-config-tool task 3.3.
bug-1453: remove unused client-side CA-certificate plumbing. C-side:
drop ca_cert_path from xce_cluster_config_t, do_connect()'s ca_cert
param, --ca-cert flags on worker/scheduler, and controller's cert
population (TLS is server-side only, SSL_VERIFY_NONE everywhere on
the client side already, verified zero SSL_CTX_load_verify_locations
calls in the C tree). Go-side: delete xcecli's self-signed cert
TOFU-pinning flow (cmd/auth/cert/*), CACert field, SetRootCAs/
loadRootCAs, and every call site.
bug-1454: fix xcecli_ctx_t leak in scheduler.c sched_init() — the
unconditional initial ctx_init was never freed before the HA
candidate loop re-initialized it on the first iteration.
bug-1455: sched_init()'s memset(sched, 0, ...) was silently wiping
sched->cluster_cfg that main.c had populated from --peers just before
calling sched_init(), so --peers was always ignored and the scheduler
fell back to the hardcoded localhost:9990 single-host default.
Restructured sched_init() to take cluster_cfg as an explicit parameter
(assigned after the memset) instead of relying on caller-side
ordering with a separate sched_set_cluster_cfg() setter, which is now
removed.
bug-1456: revert an unsafe stack-local xce_client_config_t introduced
while fixing bug-1455 — xcecli_ctx_init() stores that pointer as
ctx->conf and client_failover.c dereferences it for the ctx's entire
life (runtime reconnect), so a per-loop-iteration stack copy would
dangle the moment sched_init() returned. Back to mutating the
caller-owned, process-lifetime config in place.
Verified: full ASAN build (all components), meson test suite 9/9 OK,
manual scheduler testsuite 15/15, Go build/vet/test all pass.
Raft-drive-async's reconnect-offload burst (Task 2.1/2.2) exposed a
latent race in io_worker's epoll dispatch loop: ha.c's
on_standby_connected() evicts a stale duplicate peer channel via
iomgr_unmonitor()+endpoint_unref(), but epoll_ctl(DEL) only stops
FUTURE epoll_wait() calls -- it does not invalidate an event for that
same endpoint already sitting in the CURRENT batch's events[] array.
A later event in the same batch then dereferences the freed
endpoint_t/SSL*, producing the ASAN SEGV observed deep inside
OpenSSL's ssl3_read_bytes during raft-drive-async's round-9 soak.
The original "concurrent SSL_do_handshake from two io_worker threads"
hypothesis was wrong and is retracted -- iomgr_start() creates exactly
one io_worker thread per iomgr_t.
Fix: extract io_worker_dispatch_batch(), which takes endpoint_ref() on
every endpoint in the batch before dispatching any of them and
endpoint_unref()s each only after the whole batch completes -- the
same lock-free ref/unref bracket already used for bug-1298 and
INVOKE_MSG_HANDLER, just never applied to io_worker's own loop. Pure
atomics, no locks, no blocking added to the hot path.
Adds test_netio_batch_dispatch_uaf.c, which drives the real dispatch
loop with a synthetic epoll_event[] batch (TDD RED confirmed via ASAN
heap-use-after-free before the fix, GREEN after). Verified further
with two independent clean 10-round live sequential HA soaks (33 and
36 jobs, zero loss) and full ASAN suite runs (xcelib_test 294/0,
controller_unit_test 972/0). raft-drive-async's kiro-validate-impl
re-run flips NO-GO to GO.
restore_job_array()'s bulk-insert pass could fail partway through
(key_add() on realloc growth exhaustion), leaving an already-inserted
prefix permanently visible in c->jobmgr but excluded from
out_new_jobs -- so those elements existed and were individually
addressable but never reached HOOK_DETAIL_JOB_NEW, never scheduled or
pushed, not on this attempt or any later successful retry. A literal
violation of Requirements 2.3 and 9.4, tracked as bug-1443.
Adds kvmgr_reserve()/xzarray_reserve(), new purely-additive primitives
in shared kvmgr.c/zarray.c (following the existing kvmgr_capture_keys()
template -- bare extern function, no RTTI vtable slot, caller-holds-
write-lock contract), that pre-grow c->jobmgr's backing store before
the bulk-insert pass begins, closing the dominant N-scaling failure
trigger structurally.
Found a genuine off-by-one in the existing, unmodified
xzarray_ensure_items(): its strict less-than sufficiency check means
reserving exactly array_size and then performing array_size real
stores still triggers one more growth cycle on the last store.
Reserving array_size + 1 is the exact minimal correct compensation,
independently re-derived and confirmed by review with concrete
arithmetic.
For the now-much-narrower residual case (kvtab_add()'s own small
per-entry allocation, or a content collision -- both non-N-scaling,
honestly documented as still theoretically possible): restore_job_array()
now populates out_new_jobs with whatever prefix was genuinely inserted
before a failure, and apply_committed_entry() fires HOOK_DETAIL_JOB_NEW
for that non-empty partial prefix even when the overall return is
negative, while still propagating the negative rc so the LSN correctly
halts and the Live Apply Resource Fence still engages for the
remainder. A genuinely-inserted element is never left un-pushed again.
Task 7.1 of job-array-single-wal-record (Requirements 2.3, 9.4, 9.6).
extract_data() (src/lib/request.c), the shared reassembly step every
inbound push passes through inside vtask_entry() before any receiver's
handler runs, had no case for Data_data_jobArray -- it hit
default: rc=-EINVAL. Because vtask_entry()'s callnext check treats any
nonzero return (including a negative errno) as "reassembly complete,
proceed," this never surfaced as an error: the real payload was freed
and the receiver silently handed an empty, zeroed dataset_t, with no
log anywhere in the chain. Tasks 5.1-5.3 were each individually
correct and tested in isolation, but the feature was dead on the real
wire end-to-end.
Adds case Data_data_jobArray: passing the single, unchunked
descriptor straight through (no pagination needed, unlike the
existing LIST-shaped cases) and nulls the source pointer after
transfer -- verified this is not cosmetic, since free_Request()'s
pushmsg case would otherwise double-free it via free_Data()'s live
Data_data_jobArray branch.
Proven with a real xce_encode()/xce_decode() round-trip through the
fixed extract_data() -> sched_handle_dataset() -> sched_on_job_array()
(task 5.3, unmodified) chain, not just a unit-level check on
extract_data() alone. Also confirms task 5.4's future API-server
receive path shares this exact fix, since both go through the same
xcecli_ctx_init() -> vtask_entry() -> extract_data() pipeline.
One self-flagged, non-blocking residual gap (pre-existing since task
5.3, out of this task's request.c-only boundary): dataset->rows for
the jobArray case is never deep-freed downstream, leaking one bounded
xce_job_submit_t per successfully-delivered array push commit.
Task 5.3b of job-array-single-wal-record (Requirements 6.1, 6.2, 6.4, 8.4).
Inserted mid-run after independent review confirmed the gap; user
confirmed sequencing (fix now, before task 5.4).
- job_init() now checks makeJobsub()/makeString(ckptinfo) return
values and propagates failure instead of storing NULL with a
success return (Req 10.1).
- Root-caused the previously observed makeJobsub() NULL-with-EINVAL
failure to a test-binary-only hazard: multiple controller test
files each called job_obj_init() from their own setUp() with no
cross-file coordination, re-running jobsub_table_init() against an
already-live lock/table. Fixed via atomic_flag-guarded idempotent
job_obj_init()/job_obj_fini(), plus a distinct -ENODEV return from
makeJobsub()/makeJobstartinfo() when the table isn't ready
(previously fell through to undefined behavior) (Req 10.2).
- Verified (test) MOVE_PTR fields are always NULL on a freshly-built
submission payload -- no code change needed (Req 10.3).
- Fixed job_destroy()'s accounts leak via the existing
free_job_account() helper, replacing the stale FIXME (Req 10.4).
- Verified (inspection + test) struct Job's capnp schema has no
ckptinfo field, so decode_Job/free_Job have nothing to leak there
-- no code change needed (Req 10.5).
Independently re-verified: reviewer reproduced a pre-existing,
unrelated rtti-library leak-on-init-failure against a stashed
pre-task copy of jobj.c to confirm it predates this change.
Task 1.3 of job-array-single-wal-record.
xcecli_joblist/reslist/workerlist/resval/jobinfo return a non-negative ROW
COUNT on success (rc = getreply.nrows), not a 0/status code. They were
wrapped in XCECLI_FAILOVER_CALL, which unconditionally classifies the raw
return value against fixed constants (E_XCE_* and POSIX errno magnitudes
accepted in either sign) — a row count that happens to equal one of those
constants (e.g. exactly 111 jobs == ECONNREFUSED) was silently
misclassified as a transport failure, forcing a spurious
xce_failover_rotate() on every call with that exact count. In
/xce-test-ha's arithmetic progression (3 + 3*round) this hit at round 36,
burning the retry budget on self-inflicted churn until it coincided with
a genuine transient and surfaced a real ECONNRESET to the caller.
Add XCECLI_FAILOVER_CALL_COUNT: only enters the retry/classify loop when
EXPR's raw result is negative; any non-negative result (0 or a genuine
row count of any magnitude) is unconditionally success. Switch the five
xce_get-family wrappers to it. Verified via 40-round sequential and
40-round chaotic HA soak past round 36, zero committed-job loss.
Replace the deliberate election-carrier leak with an atomic refcount:
a bias reference held by ha->elect_ctx plus one reference per captured
vote endpoint, released via a new endpoint_t.on_fini teardown-completion
hook (fired once, before ep->data is freed). Both real-election and
PreVote capture sites (raft_cb_send_vote_request,
raft_cb_send_pre_vote_request) increment on capture; both publish sites
(ha_start_election_async, ha_start_prevote_async) now atomic_exchange
the outgoing carrier and release it instead of leaking or freeing
outright, so a still-outstanding vote endpoint keeps the superseded
carrier alive until its own teardown completes.
Verified: 758+ controller tests green, isolated LeakSanitizer run shows
zero ha_elect_ctx_t leaks across many election/PreVote rounds, no
premature-free/UAF under supersession, and a live 10-round HA soak
(36 jobs, zero loss, all 3 nodes served as primary).
bug-1433: raft_cb_become_leader runs synchronously off peer_ctrl_dispatch_to_pool,
which hardcodes VTASK_LIVENESS for every inbound peer-control packet including
vote replies. The bug-1431 round-2 fix (flusher_flush_once force-flush in
persist_promotion_advance_committed) was reachable from that never-blocks task
class -- same bug family as bug-1198. Removed the force-flush; round-3
(durable-capped only) plus the already-shipped bug-1432 immediate-first-heartbeat
fix close the visibility-latency gap non-blockingly. TRACKED RESIDUAL:
persist_apply_pump_run_sync is still reachable on the same VTASK_LIVENESS path
and does bounded pread() -- lower risk (page-cache-hot) but strictly still
blocking I/O; not safe to remove outright (reopens bug-1043-family job loss),
needs its own follow-up (reclassify peer_ctrl_classify's winning-vote-reply case
or dispatch promotion tail onto a fresh VTASK_LIVE_BLOCK vtask).
bug-1434: persist_promotion_advance_committed and ha_standby_advance_committed_and_apply
raced on persist_t.committed_lsn via an unlocked load-then-conditional-store during
the promotion window (before ha->role flips to CTRL_PRIMARY) -- a losing racer could
regress committed_lsn. Added persist_committed_lsn_advance_atomic (CAS retry loop,
lock-free) and routed both call sites through it.
Validated: 19/19 unit test suites, 6-round chaotic soak (0 loss/divergence) + 6-round
sequential+leadership-coverage soak, both PASS. Also folds in raft-apply-decoupling
and raft-ha-core-safety validate-impl phase bumps to "implemented" and clears
config-upgrade-snapshot's now-satisfied entity-bearing-snapshots block.
A primary never learns of a follower's higher term via AppendEntries-reject
responses: ha_raft_on_repl_ack only routes AE replies through
raft_on_append_entries_reply for success=1 ACKs, and that function itself
drops any reply whose term != s->term (raft.c stale-term drop) before it
could adopt a higher term anyway. Net effect: once a follower outpaces a
stale primary's term, every AppendEntries the primary sends is rejected
forever and it can never regain write-quorum — a permanent election livelock
(surfaced as "no primary elected at term>8" in HA soak testing).
Adds two fallback term-discovery vectors that fire regardless of AE-reject
outcome:
- StateReport heartbeat-reply now carries the standby's current term
(controller.capnp, typemap.h) so the primary learns a higher term on every
convergence cycle.
- New raft_on_higher_term_observed() mirrors the UpdateTerm step (strictly
greater-than only; touches term/voted_for/role; persists before notifying
on_become_follower) and is wired into both the heartbeat state-report path
and the WAL-NACK path in repl_ack_decode_and_dispatch.
Validated: 265 controller + 287 lib unit tests pass; 10-round sequential and
chaotic HA soaks both PASS with zero job loss and full leadership coverage.
Found via extended chaotic /xce-test-ha soaking on top of the bug-1419 fix
(same session). Both bugs independently caused the 10-round chaotic soak to
fail; sequential and chaotic now pass cleanly and repeatably.
1. Term-desync liveness deadlock (new): a standby that loses a near-
simultaneous election race to a peer can legitimately end up at a HIGHER
term than the peer that actually won and became primary. The primary's
now-stale-term AppendEntries/heartbeats are correctly rejected by the raft
library, but every one of those rejected messages was ALSO resetting the
standby's own liveness deadline (ha_on_heartbeat_received), so its
liveness timeout never fired and it could never start a fresh,
higher-term election to let the cluster self-heal — a permanent stall.
Fix: ha_msg_term_is_stale() gates the liveness reset (and
ha_discover_primary step-down) on the incoming message's own term stamp,
skipping it for provably-stale messages, in cluster.c's wal_catchup_entry
and nop/heartbeat handlers.
2. bug-847 (root-caused 2026-06-30, never fixed): a per-sub-entry `payload`
Data blob in a multi-entry WAL catch-up batch loses its capnp pointer once
the message crosses a segment boundary — the receiver decodes
raw_payload_len=0 for entries at/after the boundary and silently persists
empty WAL entries (structurally intact: correct LSN/term/CRC chain, empty
content). Only surfaces when a node rejoins and catches up a real batch,
which is why it needed a live chaotic soak (not the 2-entry unit test) to
reproduce. Fix: carry every sub-entry's payload concatenated in ONE
top-level batchPayloads blob instead of one Data blob per entry — a
single top-level blob does not exhibit the cross-segment loss. Sliced
back apart on decode using each sub-entry's own wirePayloadLen, a plain
scalar that (like lsn/entryType/term) decodes via the generic generated
decode path and was never subject to the bug. Confirmed via targeted
diagnostic logging that the corrupted entry arrives already-empty over
the wire (not a receive-side race), and via a faithful reproduction at
live JOB_SUBMIT payload size (5×3560B) after the original 2-entry/
14×872B tests turned out not to cross a segment boundary in this
environment.
Incidental fixes found and fixed along the way:
- A real self-deadlock (persist_entry_term() re-acquiring p->lock from
inside a caller that already held it) introduced by an initial, ultimately
unnecessary WAL-read locking fix attempted before bug-847 was pinned down;
fixed via a new persist_entry_term_locked() lock-free counterpart. Left in
place as a genuine (if incidental) hardening of ha_stream_wal_to_standby's
read consistency.
- .claude/skills/xce-test-ha/SKILL.md's `context: fork` frontmatter caused
the skill's own forked sub-session teardown to SIGHUP the whole
xce_controller process group mid-soak, killing all 3 nodes silently with
no error logged, whenever the soak was launched via the Skill tool itself
(setsid/nohup inside run-ha-soak.sh only protects against a controlling
terminal's own SIGHUP, not a parent forked-session's teardown). Removed;
added explicit guidance to launch long soaks via direct Bash from the main
session instead.
Verified: full 78-group unit regression sweep clean (0 failures) after each
change; two consecutive clean 10-round chaotic soaks and one clean 10-round
sequential soak on the final binary (zero committed divergence, zero job
loss, all 3 nodes led in both modes).
Extend raft_sim.c's deterministic TLA+-conformance harness with two
fault-injectable checks: no reaction before commit, and idempotent
re-apply of an already-committed entry. Wired as dedicated tests only,
not into raft_sim_check_all's fixed four-invariant contract (owned by
a separate spec). RED/GREEN independently verified by adversarial
review; zero regression to existing scenario functions.
bug-847 (catch-up WAL batch drops payloads across capnp segment boundaries):
its purpose-built RED reproducer, test_wal_batch_roundtrip_large_payloads
(14 entries x 872-byte payloads, 12.2KB total, genuinely spans multiple
4096-byte capnp segments per capn-malloc.c's create()), was still
TEST_IGNORE_MESSAGE'd. Un-ignoring it and running under ASAN with leak
detection: clean pass, byte-exact payloads, zero leaks, 2/2 runs. Traced the
vendored c-capnproto far-pointer machinery (write_ptr/capn_setp in capn.c)
to confirm the cross-segment struct->Data reference path is correct by
construction — whatever regressed this already got fixed elsewhere (library
bump or an incidental request.c change); the ignore was just never removed.
No production code changed.
bug-1307 (task-5.7 election-jitter data-safety regression: 7 divergences +
4 job losses over 6 chaotic rounds): re-ran the exact reproducing scenario
(6-round chaotic soak, real ext4, ASAN binaries) — 21 jobs, 0 divergence,
0 job loss, clean PASS. Confirms the raft-ha-core-safety Phase 5 work
resolved it.
Both bugs were the last 2 of the 7 flagged in the prior staleness sweep;
all 7 are now closed (6 were already fixed and undetected, 1 needed the
test un-ignored).

bug-1401: xce_free_ctrlstatus(s) was defined as free_CtrlStatus(s), which
only frees the fields inside xce_ctrlstatus_t. The real client reply path
(decode_CtrlStatus_ptr) calloc's the struct itself, so every ctrlstatus call
leaked sizeof(xce_ctrlstatus_t) (120 bytes). Existing unit tests never caught
it because they built/freed the struct via the raw stack-decode + bare
free_CtrlStatus() helpers, never exercising the actual client macro. Fixed
by switching the macro to free_CtrlStatus_ptr(&(s)) and added a regression
test that exercises the real heap-decode path; RED confirmed the exact
120-byte/1-alloc LeakSanitizer signature before the fix.
bug-1400: the originally reported SEGV in cmd_jobsub on malformed positional
input is stale — NULLSTR guards added 2025-11-05 already reject it cleanly.
The real residual defect was submit.start_info leaking on all 4 early-return
validation paths; fixed by routing them through a shared `goto cleanup`
(matches the existing goto-clean idiom in queue_ctrl).
bug-1396 (job-count anomaly after cold-restart-all, not yet root-caused):
instrumented test-commit-durability.sh's assert_job_count() to dump the live
joblist and ACKED_FILE ledger on any count mismatch instead of only the
count, per the bug's own recorded next step.
Verified: controller ASAN build + full controller_unit_test green; lib
xcelib_test 285/285 green, 0 ASAN leaks.

ha_send_snapshot_to_standby ignored the network send's return value in its
chunk loop, silently truncating a transfer on a mid-stream error while still
logging "complete" (bug-1386). Fixing the silent drop exposed a second,
independent bug in the same pipeline: ha_handle_snapshot_chunk appended
received chunks in arrival order instead of at their wire-carried
chunk_offset, so out-of-order delivery across the vtask pool corrupted the
reassembled file even though every chunk's bytes were individually correct
(bug-1389). Fixed by checking every fallible call in the send loop and
switching the receiver to pwrite-at-offset with a count-based completion
tracker.
Adds snapverify/snapdiff xce_test commands (offline checkpoint-file
structural validator and byte-level comparator) used to diagnose bug-1389 and
kept as standing diagnostic tools for future snapshot-transfer triage.
g_drive_async_configpush_offload flipped back ON after both fixes, validated
via 6-round chaotic + 3/3 force-snapshot soak (raft-drive-async task 3.3).

Root-caused via raft-ha-core-safety 5.10a investigation: schedule_checkpoint()
(persist.c) fires correctly once wal_record_count crosses its threshold, but
its delay_task()-scheduled checkpoint_task_fn never executed in a live
multi-node deployment -- confirmed live via temporary diagnostic logging
(wal_record_count=100 max=100 logged, but the task itself never ran).
Root cause: delay_task_t carried TWO incomparable time representations --
`nextrun` (wall-clock time_t seconds, used by delay_task()) and `nextrun_ts`
(CLOCK_MONOTONIC timespec, used by delay_task_ms()). task_cmp()'s mixed-type
fallback compared them directly: an ms-task's nextrun is always 0, a
seconds-task's nextrun is a real epoch value (e.g. 1785600123) -- so 0
always sorted "less than" any seconds-task, regardless of actual due time.
ordq (src/lib/ordq.c) keeps its queue as an ascending sorted linked list by
this comparator, and delay_worker() only ever inspects the list HEAD
(ordq_peek with no matchfn returns q->head immediately, no scanning). Since
cluster_t.delaymgr is shared with ha.c's ~10 recurring delay_task_ms() call
sites (heartbeats, election timers, RDHUP polling), the head was
structurally almost-always occupied by an ms-task -- any delay_task()
(seconds) caller sharing that delaymgr, including schedule_checkpoint's
checkpoint_task_fn, could be starved indefinitely.
Fix: eliminate the dual representation entirely. Every task -- whether
scheduled via delay_task() (seconds) or delay_task_ms() (milliseconds) --
now stores one flat uint64_t CLOCK_MONOTONIC millisecond deadline
(nextrun_ms). delay_task() becomes a thin seconds->ms wrapper around
delay_task_ms(). task_cmp() and task_due() collapse to a single integer
comparison; delay_worker()'s reschedule is a flat integer add (no more
tv_sec/tv_nsec carry arithmetic, no more is_ms_task branching). Net -42
lines. Live-verified: after this fix, a forced checkpoint round produces a
real installed snapshot file (previously: schedule_checkpoint fired but the
task silently never ran).
controller_unit_test: full 58-group sweep, 0 Failures, 0 ASAN reports
(before and after this change) -- no regression, including every
delaymgr-touching group (test_demotion_convergence, test_ha_start_election_async,
test_ha_core_safety, test_ha_startup, etc).
Adds checkpointTerm (@6, append-only) to the SnapshotTransfer wire
message. The leader stamps it via persist_entry_term(p, checkpoint_lsn)
when sending a snapshot; the standby reconciles it into its own
per-LSN term index (persist_reconcile_checkpoint_term) right after
persist_load_snapshot succeeds, before applied_lsn advances. This
authoritatively overwrites any stale local term a divergent
pre-snapshot entry left at the checkpoint LSN, closing the gap task
3.1's RED test proved (Expected 7 Was 3 -> now passes). Transport
stays persist_t-free; the reconcile lives in persist.c per the
existing dependency direction. Decode is auto-generated via capnp
mapname; only the hand-rolled encode path (request.c/typemap.h, needed
for the raw snapshot payload) required a matching manual update.
test_ha_core_safety 25/0, test_config_repl 66/0, no ASAN reports.
The io_worker freed an endpoint (endpoint_killer, cluster.c) on connection
teardown while the vtask dispatcher concurrently read ep->busy
(endpoint_is_task_blocked, netio.c) on a queued vtask — a heap-use-after-free
that ABORTed a controller mid-chaotic-soak (round 4), dropping the cluster
below quorum so no primary could be elected.
Replace the accumulation of ad-hoc ep-lifetime patches (bug-1282 lockless busy,
bug-1197 dispatch_inflight drain + deferred teardown vtask) with one principled
invariant: an endpoint lives until its reference count reaches 0.
- endpoint_t.refcnt (_Atomic) + heap_alloc flag; endpoint_get starts a heap ep
at refcnt=1 (the owner ref).
- endpoint_ref/endpoint_unref: the last unref fini's + frees a heap ep.
Embedded eps (client ctx->ep, heap_alloc=0) are never freed here — their
container owns them — so a vtask-balanced ref/unref pair is a safe no-op.
- vtask_enq takes a per-vtask ref on the bound ep BEFORE publishing the task to
the dispatcher; run_task / taskq_item_killer release it. So the dispatcher can
read ep->busy on any queued vtask without the ep being freed underneath it.
- every HEAP-ep teardown site (endpoint_killer, handle_endpoint_error, the
vote/prevote connect-fail paths, the vote-ep loser/teardown paths, the standby
reconnect/eviction paths) now drops its owner ref via endpoint_unref instead of
raw endpoint_fini+free. Several of those also leaked the ep struct before
(endpoint_fini-only); unref fixes the leak too.
Validation: controller_unit_test 182 tests / 0 failures (test_ha_vep_teardown
updated — its OFF-path test asserted the old struct leak, now fixed). 6-round
ASAN chaotic soak: ZERO AddressSanitizer reports, ctrl-3 no longer crashes at
round 4, all 6 rounds elect at bounded terms. (The pre-existing iomgr_fini ->
SSL_CTX_free abort under openssl 3.6 in the aggregate test binary is unrelated.)
Note: with the crash gone, the soak now reaches rounds 4-6 for the first time and
surfaces a SEPARATE, pre-existing committed-job-loss/divergence (the bug-795/828
failover catch-up gap; ha-commit-durability domain) — not a refcount regression
(ASAN clean; rounds 1-3 are loss-free).
Root-caused via gdb (all-thread backtrace on two independently-wedged controllers
during chaotic failover): an ABBA lock-order deadlock in the async dispatch path.
io_worker (netio.c): holds ep->lock, blocks on q->lock (vtask_enq -> dataq_enq)
vdispatcher: dataq_deq holds q->lock, blocks on ep->lock via the
vtask_eligible -> endpoint_is_task_blocked match callback
endpoint_is_task_blocked took ep->lock while the caller (dataq_deq) held the dataq
q->lock, inverting io_worker's ep->lock -> q->lock order. Under churn the two
orders collide and the iomgr wedges (no more accepts / vote replies).
Fix (mirrors the dispatch_inflight precedent, bug-1197): promote endpoint_t.busy
from a 1-bit bitfield to _Atomic int and make endpoint_block_tasks /
endpoint_unblock_tasks / endpoint_is_task_blocked lockless (release/acquire). The
ep->lock that wrapped each access protected nothing else (busy only gates the
vtask queue), so removing it is safe; the inherent set-then-check TOCTOU is
unchanged (the lock never prevented it — the decision is advisory).
Verified: post-fix gdb soak shows ZERO threads in __lll_lock_wait and
endpoint_is_task_blocked no longer appears in any lock path (deadlock gone);
controller_unit_test all green (no regression). NOTE: a SEPARATE release-only
restart segfault remains and still blocks the raft-ha-core-safety 7.2 gate
(tracked separately) — deadlocks hang, they do not SIGSEGV, so it is a distinct
memory bug.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_019dbTHR9CsEYK9RsqmQpQpC
When the (still-default-OFF) peer-control dispatch flag is ON,
raft_cb_become_follower runs as a vtask pool worker and frees every peer
vote-ep while other pool workers may still hold those eps' data — a UAF
(bug-1197). This makes that path quiescence-safe so the flag can later be
flipped ON (deferred to the 4.x prod-flip gate; production stays OFF here).
Mechanism (no libxce-wide endpoint refcount; reuses the existing per-ep FIFO +
busy serialization):
- Deferred teardown-as-vtask: the loser loop, when dispatch is ON and the pool
is wired, does per vote-ep endpoint_mark_tearing_down -> iomgr_unmonitor ->
enqueue a VTASK_IO/VTASK_LIVENESS teardown vtask bound to that ep. Per-ep busy
FIFO makes it run strictly after any in-flight/queued same-ep peer-control
vtask; the body NULLs iod->ep before endpoint_fini+free(ep) to disarm
run_task's post-body endpoint_unblock_tasks (which would touch the freed
ep->lock). OFF / pool-unwired path is byte-for-byte the legacy endpoint_fini.
- RCU-like drain closes the dispatch/teardown TOCTOU window: new _Atomic int
endpoint_t.dispatch_inflight (+ tearing_down:1 bit). The ON dispatch brackets
its flag-check+enqueue with fetch_add/fetch_sub (seq_cst);
endpoint_mark_tearing_down sets the flag under ep->lock, releases, then spins
until dispatch_inflight drains to 0. So every dispatch that read the flag
false finishes its enqueue before mark returns (FIFO-before the teardown
vtask); any later dispatch reads the flag set and drops the packet. ep->lock
is deliberately NOT held across the enqueue (it inverts with the taskq lock in
vtask_eligible); the counter is the lock-free handshake. Drain is bounded: the
held window is just a calloc + non-blocking enqueue on the single io_worker.
Still open before the production flag flip (4.x): the borrowed-ep race in
snapshot_lane_fn/configpush_lane_fn is distinct (slowlane thread vs io_worker
RDHUP teardown, not the vtask-pool FIFO) and needs its own per-standby-ep
discipline.
Tests: test_ha_vep_teardown.c — 5 ASan tests (ordering, late-event drop, run_task
unblock disarm, OFF-path unchanged, deterministic mark-drains-inflight-dispatch).
xcelib_test 282/0; controller_unit_test EXIT=0; ASan-clean. Adversarial
cpp-review: no CRITICAL/HIGH; handshake formally sound, flag-ON path race-free.

Lands the PeerCtrlDispatch machinery behind a DEFAULT-OFF flag
(g_drive_async_peerctrl_dispatch_enabled); production behavior is
UNCHANGED. peer_ctrl_msg_handler becomes a thin shim that takes
ownership of ep->fsm_in.pkt and either runs the routing body inline
(flag OFF, byte-for-byte the prior path) or dispatches it to the vtask
pool via vtask_enq_classified (flag ON). The 3 routers now take pkt as
an explicit param (no cross-thread ep->fsm_in.pkt re-read). Per-endpoint
arrival order is enforced by bind_vtask's endpoint_block_tasks.
Packet ownership: shim clears ep->fsm_in.pkt at dispatch (sole-owner
transfer); peer_ctrl_vtask_entry NULLs iod->pkt before the body frees
it once. New vtask_t.owns_io_pkt (default 0) lets taskq_item_killer free
the carried packet for an un-executed queued task at vtaskmgr_fini WITHOUT
double-freeing the libxce endpoint-owned path (bug-1199).
Adversarial review found two FLAG-ON hazards, documented with loud
comments (flag is OFF so production is unaffected), to be resolved before
task 3.4 flips the flag ON:
- bug-1197 (CRITICAL): raft_cb_become_follower endpoint_fini()s peer
vote-eps from a pool worker, racing the io_worker's read of ep->data;
needs iomgr_unmonitor before endpoint_fini in every pool-reachable
teardown.
- bug-1198 (HIGH): peer_ctrl_classify tags all work VTASK_LIVENESS, but
the CTRL_PRIMARY repl-ack path can run a blocking snapshot checkpoint
inline; resolved by task 3.2 (offload snapshot to SlowLane).
Per spec, 3.1 is not 'done' until the task 3.4 deadlock gate is green.
Tests: 3 new peerctrl tests; controller 196/196, lib 282/0; 0 net leaks.
vtaskmgr gains vtask_class_t (LIVENESS/LIVE_BLOCK/REQ_BLOCK) + a pool-level
blocking reservation: REQ_BLOCK fast-rejects -XCE_ERR_NOT_READY past
n_vcpus-R; LIVENESS never gated (deadlock-freedom). commit_submit folds its
inflight_waits onto the pool via commit_set_pool; production wired in
cluster.c phase2 (vtaskmgr_set_liveness_reserved(R) + commit_set_pool).
Lock order p->lock->ce->lock->blk_lock. Dormant until 3.1. Commit suites
38/30/22/38 green; lib 282/0, controller 196/0, ASAN clean. Phase 1 done.
socket_connect sets O_NONBLOCK before connect and bounds the attempt with
poll(timeout); new connect_timeout_ms param (0=DEFAULT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_MS);
all 5 callers updated (ha.c x3, client.c, xcectx.c). Revalidation Trigger:
shared netio helper signature changed. Broad build links all components;
xcelib_test 278/0, controller_unit_test 194/0. 1.4/1.5 unit tests satisfied
by the TDD output of 1.2/1.3 (test_slowlane.c, test_netio_bounded_connect.c).
- sim_tla_action_name: drop brittle per-case 'raft.tla:NNN' line-number comments
(some had drifted a few lines off; the return string IS the stable raft.tla
Next-disjunct name, and the function header already cites raft.tla:454).
- test_sim_5_1_partition_heal: the per-follower convergence loop was vacuous —
it bounded by commit_index, which stays 0 for followers under the leader-only
commit model, so the loop never ran. Bound by log_count instead (followers DO
advance the replicated log); Log Matching still guarantees the shared-prefix
terms agree. Now non-vacuous; still passes.
Test/comment-only; no behavior change. Lib suite Ok:1 Fail:0.
Adds raft_sim_scenario_figure8: a previous-term entry on a quorum under a
new-term leader is NOT committed until a current-term entry commits (library-
gated by raft_advance_commit; verified by a mutation test). Also restores the
raft_sim_scenario_drop_dup_reorder implementation that commit e445404 (task 5.3)
silently dropped from raft_sim.c (a stray git checkout reverted the uncommitted
impl), which had left the lib build broken with an undefined reference.
Build green: test_sim_5_3_drop_dup_reorder + test_sim_5_4_figure8 both PASS.
