93dfc02717 feat(ha-single-leader-role): remove CTRL_PRIMARY_COMMITTING enum + remaining decls — compiler-enforced (task 5.2) 2026-06-13 14:41:42 +00:00
7f974e766b test(ha-single-leader-role): sweep all COMMITTING fixtures to direct-PRIMARY contract (task 5.1) 2026-06-13 13:59:42 +00:00
a5bf86112a feat(ha-single-leader-role): delete force-promotion watchdog + convergence/ack machinery (task 4.1) 2026-06-13 12:05:08 +00:00
566c91cd8b feat(ha-wal-replication): standby WAL ACK reply (tasks 3.1-3.3)
Standby sends WalAckReply via xce_reply after each successfully
applied WAL entry. ha_apply_wal_catchup_entry signature extended
with endpoint_t* and cluster_t* parameters. walackreplymsg union
arm added to RequestReply capnp schema and xce_reply_t. Error
entries skip ACK. Dispatch gate test confirms OPCode_walCatchupEntry
allowed in CTRL_STANDBY/ELECTING/INIT.

f236d320a2 refactor(ha-repl-hardening): standardize n_peers = total cluster size including self
- ha_state_t.n_peers now matches raft_config_t.n_peers convention:
  total cluster size (including self), consistently across both layers
- ha_start_election_async: ha->n_peers = n_peers (candidates_count)
- Convergence/counting loops: i < n_peers - 1 (skip self for standby arrays)
- Single-node: n_peers=1, threshold=0 (same behavior, clear semantics)
- ha_elect_ctx_t.n_peers unchanged (separate field for vote array sizing)
- Tests: 3-node n_peers=2->3, single-node 0->1, loop bounds updated

E2E test 6.7: 3-node cluster lifecycle verified
- Initial: ctrl-1 PRIMARY via majority convergence, no degraded mode
- Kill primary: RDHUP detected on both standbys, ctrl-2 elected at term=4
- No data loss: config tag preserved across failover
- Full ASAN build green

d41cfc5813 feat(ha-repl-hardening): audit unit tests for decision loop and WAL catch-up (tasks 6.1, 6.2)
6.1: Add missing test_evaluate_repl_action_stream_wal_fresh_system
(tag=T, lsn=0, oldest_wal_lsn=0 → STREAM_WAL in fresh system);
5 other required test cases already existed from tasks 3.1/3.2/5.2/2.3

6.2: Add test_wal_catchup_batch_256_entries (max batch size boundary)
and test_wal_catchup_batch_applied_lsn_only_after_full_batch (Req 5.5);
4 other required test cases already existed from tasks 2.1/2.2

0762577bf7 feat(ha-repl-hardening): committing timeout 60s degraded-mode safety net (task 5.3)
- Change HA_DEFAULT_COMMITTING_TIMEOUT_MS from 10000 to 60000
- committing_timeout_fn: count converged/pending standbys from
  standby_converged[], log WARN with counts, then promote (degraded mode)
- Replace hardcoded 10000 in test_ha_evaluate_committing.c with macro
- Three new tests: default=60000, degrade-promote with 1/2 and 0/2 converged

534bfd68fe feat(ha-repl-hardening): majority-convergence → CTRL_PRIMARY transition (task 5.2)
- Add ha_check_majority_convergence() in ha.c: counts standby_converged[],
  promotes CTRL_PRIMARY_COMMITTING → CTRL_PRIMARY when all standbys converge
- Threshold: n_peers (all standbys) per spec test cases; single-node satisfies immediately
- Called from repl_ack_decode_and_dispatch() before replication dispatch
- Logs INFO "majority converged (N/M standbys) → CTRL_PRIMARY" (Req 7.4)
- Three unit tests: 1/2 converged → stays COMMITTING; 2/2 → PRIMARY; single-node → immediate
- Fix ha.h comment: clarify double-promotion prevention via vtask context, not CAS

18ad3e9c9f feat(ha-repl-hardening): snapshot transfer integration and dispatch-path tests (task 3.5d)
- Add ha_repl_send_snapshot_hook seam in ha.c/ha.h for XCE_TESTING
- test_dispatch_repl_action_send_snapshot: verifies SEND_SNAPSHOT
  decision triggers hook when standby_lsn < oldest_wal_lsn
- test_snapshot_recv_two_chunks_assembles_and_renames: verifies standby
  assembles snap.part across chunks and renames on isLast=true
- test_snapshot_recv_reconnect_discards_snappart: verifies O_TRUNC
  semantics on chunk_index==0 restart after reconnect
- All tests pass under ASAN

6b69a47c50 feat(ha-repl-hardening): batch WAL streaming from decision loop (task 3.4)
ha_stream_wal_to_standby() reads WAL from committed_lsn range, accumulates
entries to 256/64KB per batch, enqueues all via xce_request() (non-blocking).
Partial final batch sent immediately. Wired into STREAM_WAL case.
3 tests: 500-entries/2-batches, partial batch, empty range.
Fixed stale task-number comments per review.

d1c7872d73 feat(ha-repl-hardening): wire config push from decision loop (task 3.3)
ha_dispatch_repl_action_for_standby() calls push_config_to_standbys()
when PUSH_CONFIG decision. Hook seam for unit tests. Wired into
repl_ack_decode_and_dispatch after ha_process_standby_state.
oldest_wal_lsn=0 placeholder documented for task 3.4.

a475ef621f feat(ha-repl-hardening): unified replication decision loop (task 3.2)
ha_evaluate_repl_action() pure function: stale tag→PUSH_CONFIG,
lsn<oldest_wal→SEND_SNAPSHOT, lsn<committed→STREAM_WAL, else CONVERGED.
5 tests. Fixed misleading stream_wal_from_zero test name per review.

aab41fa609 feat(ha-repl-hardening): per-standby convergence tracking from heartbeats (task 3.1)
ha_process_standby_state stores (tag, lsn) per standby, evaluates
convergence (tag>=committed && lsn>=committed), sets converged flag,
logs INFO only on transition. Wired into repl_ack_decode_and_dispatch.
5 tests: converged, lsn-behind, tag-behind, regression, multi-peer.

e3ca775f0d feat(ha-repl-hardening): add per-standby convergence tracking arrays (task 1.4)
Add standby_reported_tag/lsn/converged arrays to ha_state_t, sized
MAX_HA_CANDIDATES. Zero-init via existing memset in ha_init().
Unit test verifies zero-init and writability.

e42564b3bd feat(ha): add phase2_done, repl_ack_count, n_peers, client_ssl_ctx fields and CTRL_PRIMARY_COMMITTING enum
Task 2.1 of election-iomgr-refactor spec. Adds the new ha_state_t fields
required for the COMMITTING phase FSM, the CTRL_PRIMARY_COMMITTING role enum
value, and the committing_timeout_ms config field with its default constant.
ha_init() explicitly zero-initialises all new fields. Unit test verifies
zero-init and enum distinctness.

Requirements: 5.2, 8.1 (election-iomgr-refactor spec)

0d783b16e3 fix(ha): zero ha_state_t before validation; fix invalid config in stale test
Root cause: test_heartbeat_stale_no_crash_without_primary had
heartbeat_timeout_ms=100 < heartbeat_interval_ms=3000, causing ha_init
to return -EINVAL before memset. The test ignored the return value and
called ha_fini on garbage stack memory. The watchdog_thread field
happened to hold the value 3 (from a prior stack frame), so
ha_stop_watchdog called pthread_join(3, NULL) — crash at 0x2d3
(__pthread_clockjoin_ex accessing thread-struct field at offset 0x2d0).

Fix 1 (test): valid config (interval=2000, timeout=3000). Staleness is
injected via last_heartbeat -= 10s, so timeout value was irrelevant.
Added TEST_ASSERT_EQUAL_INT check on ha_init return.

Fix 2 (ha_init): move memset before validation so ha_fini is safe to
call even after a failed init — prevents the same bug class in callers
that check ha_init's return late.

Verified: test_ha_role 11/11 PASS in both non-ASAN and ASAN builds.

fe3cc57f27 feat: implement real am_i_primary() with election probing, ha_is_primary(), ha_check_priority_stepdown()
- Replace stub am_i_primary() with real election probe logic
- probe_thread(): non-blocking TCP connect with optional SSL handshake
- wait_any_probe(): deadline-based spin-poll across all probe threads
- am_i_primary(): priority-0 always primary; higher priorities probe
  lower-priority peers and self-promote if deadline expires
- ha_is_primary(): lock-free role check
- ha_check_priority_stepdown(): simultaneous-boot stepdown at term=0
- start/stop_heartbeat_listener(): stubs for Task 7
- ha_init(): explicit initialization of ssl_ctx/jitter_seed/standby_endpoints
- TDD: add test_am_i_primary suite with 3 tests covering p0/p1 paths

652b015458 feat: ha_do_promote/demote + SIGUSR1 atomic flag handler (P1-3a)
- ha_do_promote(): atomic_fetch_add term, set role=PRIMARY, reset
  last_received_crc to WAL_CRC_NONE (COH-5 chain restart on promotion)
- ha_do_demote(): set role=STANDBY, reset hooks_registered idempotency guard
- ha_install_sigusr1(): sigaction handler stores only atomic int —
  async-signal-safe per POSIX.1-2017 §2.4.3; global g_sigusr1_ha set
  once before signals are enabled
- ha_promote_to_primary() / ha_demote_to_standby() remain (void)c stubs
  pending P1-5 cluster wiring

Tests: 3 new cases in test_ha_role.c
  test_promote_increments_term: term > term_before, role == PRIMARY
  test_demote_sets_standby_role: role reverts to STANDBY after promote+demote
  test_sigusr1_sets_failover_requested: raise(SIGUSR1) sets atomic flag
Result: 100 Tests 0 Failures 0 Ignored (controller suite)

2fae4c3df5 feat: heartbeat watchdog pthread + ha_check_heartbeat + start/stop API (P1-3)
- Add ha_start_watchdog() / ha_stop_watchdog() — dedicated pthread with
  nanosleep(heartbeat_interval_ms) loop; stop via atomic watchdog_stop +
  pthread_join (no pthread_cancel, safe for OpenSSL)
- Add ha_check_heartbeat_nocluster() — reads role with
  atomic_load_explicit(memory_order_acquire), guards on primary_host[0]=='\0',
  computes elapsed_ms from CLOCK_MONOTONIC, sets failover_requested on timeout
- Update ha_fini() to call ha_stop_watchdog() before mutex destroy
- 3 new tests (TDD RED→GREEN): watchdog starts/stops, no-op when no primary,
  stale heartbeat no crash; all 97 controller tests green

a289edb777 feat: ha_state_t, ha_config_t, ha_init/fini, role enum + config validation (P1-2)
- Full ha.h: ctrl_role_t enum (CTRL_PRIMARY/CTRL_STANDBY), ha_config_t,
  ha_state_t with _Atomic fields (term, role, applied_lsn, promotion
  counters, watchdog_stop), pthread_mutex_t lock, and public API.
- endpoint_t* omitted from ha_state_t — including netio.h would pull
  OpenSSL headers and risk circular deps; watchdog (P1-3) includes
  netio.h directly where needed.
- ha_init validates: heartbeat_interval_ms >= 2000, heartbeat_timeout_ms
  >= heartbeat_interval_ms, election_timeout_ms >= 500; returns -EINVAL
  on bad config; zeros struct and sets initial role to CTRL_STANDBY.
- ha_fini destroys mutex; watchdog thread join deferred to P1-3.
- am_i_primary / ha_promote_to_primary / ha_demote_to_standby are
  no-op stubs; cluster_t->ha field not yet wired (P1-5), so these avoid
  incomplete-type dereferences until then.
- TDD: 5 new tests in test_ha_role.c confirmed RED before implementation,
  all 5 GREEN after; all prior controller tests remain green.
