ab12f49256 feat(advisor): agent loop, decision log, runbook, run/once CLI
- internal/agent: observe-mode loop — periodic scan + SSE job-event pull
(events only pull the next scan earlier, debounced 5s; job.finished
feeds exit_burst). Provider chain: primary (LLM) → echo fallback on
failure, recorded as degraded. VerifyEvidence firewall runs on every
LLM answer. Observe-only by construction: no write path reachable.
- internal/declog: JSONL decision log (scenario, trigger, provider, model,
latency, tokens, findings, raw output, state snapshot + digest,
  degraded flag), size-rotated.
- internal/runbook: incident-pattern seed (embedded YAML) from the
cluster's real debugging history (bug-1494 stale config, IPC ABI skew,
bug-1513 rejoin crashes, bug-1521 reason race, first-fit bias,
dispatch-fail repend family), rendered into the provider prompt.
- cmd: advisor run (signal-handled observe loop) and advisor once
(single round, JSON report to stdout, no decision log).
- internal/config tests; full suite CGO_ENABLED=0 go test ./... clean.

fbc81d61d1 feat(advisor): snapshot builder + deterministic detectors
- internal/snapshot: compact cluster state via schedulerclient (nodes,
PEND top-N most-starved with parsed pending_reason, cluster sums, queue
garnish, recent exits). Field whitelists + stall-threshold filter keep
the state a few KiB. Module-local PEND-reason table mirrors
  mcp-server/internal/pendreason.go (lift into schedulerclient is a P1
  cleanup).
- internal/detect: pend_stall / worker_health / util_skew / exit_burst
triggers — threshold, then per-scenario cooldown, then dedup on a hash
of the situation (job set + reasons / node set) so an unchanged cluster
  is never re-evaluated.

1ab96521b8 feat(advisor): Go module skeleton — config, provider contract, echo + openai providers
P0 of the scheduler advisor (observe-only LLM ops copilot). New standalone
Go module src/frontend/advisor (CGO_ENABLED=0, mcp-server layout, replaces
schedulerclient). No LLM executes anything: providers turn scenario
snapshots into structured Findings only.

- internal/config: env-driven config (XCE_API_URL/KEY, ADVISOR_LLM_*,
  ADVISOR_INTERVAL, ADVISOR_LOG); LLM unset is valid (echo-only).
- internal/provider: Provider interface + Finding contract (kind/severity/
  summary/evidence/confidence/suggestion). Confidence is display-only —
never calibrated for LLM backends, never gated on.
  - echo: deterministic rules provider (fallback, test baseline, yardstick).
  - openai: OpenAI-compatible chat-completions (GLM/Qwen/DeepSeek/local
vLLM), strict JSON response_format, enum-validated findings, bounded
429/5xx retries with backoff, 30s default timeout.
  - VerifyEvidence: hallucination firewall — evidence elements must appear
verbatim in the state snapshot or the finding is demoted (unverified,
confidence 0.2) while staying in the log.

Jev (TypeSafe System One) deliberately not wired: recorded in the design
doc (later commit) as a future provider behind the same interface.

f94cc08680 fix(security): x11_cookie field-level RBAC; xcecli -X preflight before submit
The per-job MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 that unlocks an -X job's X11 forwarding
port rode every job reply that asked for it: any job:view caller could
read another user's cookie and connect straight to the worker's
forwarding port (6100-6199), bypassing the xattach relay's ownership
check. The SSE job stream carried it too, since its events embed the
full JobInfo row.

- apiserver: stripX11Cookie drops the cookie from GetJobsInfo,
GetJobByIDs and the SSE stream for every job the caller does not own
and holds no job:control grant over — the same rule XAttachJob
enforces. The row itself stays visible; only the secret goes.
- xcecli: preflightX11 checks DISPLAY, the Xauthority file and the
xauth binary before the job is submitted, so a misconfigured display
fails in one second instead of dispatching a job nobody can watch.

Verified end-to-end on t1: owner reads the cookie, a group mate with
job:view(self_ug)+job:control(self) gets the row with the cookie
stripped, an unrelated user is refused at the row level; controllers
tests cover the matrix plus the SSE path.

85a22271c1 Add X11 forwarding for interactive jobs (xcecli -I -X, ssh -X style)
Render -X jobs' windows on the user's own X server with zero client
install, mirroring the ssh -X experience: the job command starts with
DISPLAY pointed at a per-job TCP listener on the worker, and the user's
xcecli relays that listener's byte stream to their local X server.

- xcecli: new -X/--x11 flag (interactive=2 + exdata "x11":1). After
submit it fetches the per-job MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1, registers it in the
user's Xauthority, then bridges one xattach websocket to the local X
server address parsed from $DISPLAY (unix socket or TCP). The cookie
entry is removed when the session ends. Pre-flight checks report
  missing DISPLAY/xauth before submit.
- apiserver: GET /xce/v1/jobs/:id/xattach relays websocket binary frames
to the worker's forwarding port (raw TCP, no ttyd). Close codes match
the ttyd attach (4000 unreachable, 4001 ended). The job-finished event
ends the relay. Teardown closes both hops as soon as either pump
exits, so a client disconnect propagates instead of deadlocking in a
  blocking read.
- worker: XJOB jobs with exdata x11=1 skip VNC, listen on 6100-6199,
  generate a per-job xauth file (/tmp/job_<id>_xauth, worker-side since
the worker has no session), export DISPLAY/XAUTHORITY to the command,
and bridge the app connection (loopback) with the relay connection
(non-loopback; roles classified by source address, not arrival order).
A 60 s no-client watchdog reaps jobs nothing ever attached to; the
  v1 single-connection boundary refuses a second X connection loudly.

t1-verified per the plan matrix: window rendering (xclock/xeyes on
Xvfb), normal end -> DONE + xauth removed, no-client 60 s reap (137),
kill -> immediate teardown with no residue, -I/-I --browse regression,
daemon health, missing-DISPLAY error, second-connection refusal.
(--xjob VNC on t1 fails for lack of a vncserver binary; pre-existing.)

4f188310ba worker: reap unattached TTY jobs via ttyd watchdog with real-pid resolution
An attach job (xcecli -I without --browse) that no client ever connects
to sat in RUN forever: ttyd only starts the job command on the first
websocket client, so with no client the command never runs, ttyd never
exits, and the job holds its ttyd, port and per-job worker indefinitely.

New exdata key "attach":1, set by the CLI for TTY jobs that are not
--browse and carried through the apiserver's extendDataMap to the
worker's transfer_info->attach_mode. For such jobs the worker starts a
1 s watchdog when the job process starts:

- no client attached within 60 s -> reap ttyd (SIGKILL to the monitored
tree), job EXITs with status message "No client attached within 60 s"
- client came and the command ran and exited -> give ttyd 5 s to stop
on its own (-Q), then reap: "Command exited; ttyd did not stop on its
  own"

The reap lands in the regular process_exit_callback path (JOB_EXITED,
status reason, post-exec, worker exit), so kill and cleanup behave like
any other job termination.

Field-critical detail: uv_proc_get_pid returns the "/bin/sh -c ttyd ..."
wrapper pid, and sh does not reliably exec -- on the field ttyd runs as
a child of the wrapper. Judging the wrapper's children would see ttyd
itself as "the command has started" and never reap. The watchdog
resolves the real ttyd pid first (/proc/<pid>/comm walk down through
the sh wrapper, capped depth) and judges client activity by the real
ttyd's children; killing still goes through the monitored wrapper tree
so both topologies (exec'd or forked) are covered.

Web-viewed sessions (--browse / DISPLAY) are untouched: no attach
exdata, no watchdog -- ttyd stays until a browser connects or the job
is killed, as before.

Attach failure on the CLI side prints that the job will be cleaned up
by the worker if no client attaches within 60 s.

Tests: xcecli (attach flag matrix), apiserver controllers (attach
exdata end-to-end in ExtendData), worker native suites; live t1
cluster: normal attach completes DONE with no residue, unattached job
EXITs at ~60 s with the reason in the worker log and port released,
Ctrl-C-then-wait completes when the command ends, --browse job stays
RUN past 60 s and kills cleanly.

6ce7bdbe11 xcecli: backoff poll cadence and suspend tolerance for -I URL wait
waitForInteractiveURL polled PEND every 5s, adding ~4.4s of dead time
to every interactive submit (the job typically reaches RUN with its
session URL ~0.6s after submit once the apiserver applies the
controller's jobPidInfo push), and the RUN-but-no-URL-yet round waited
another 2s. Front-load fast 500ms polls (10 rounds) so a normally
dispatched job attaches within ~1s, then back off to 2s so a job stuck
in a long queue costs the server a query every couple of seconds
instead of a permanent 2 qps; the RUN race polls 500ms too.

checkJobStatus also failed the wait outright on any state other than
PEND/RUN: treat PSUSP like PEND (still queued), and USUSP/SSUSP/
TRANSIENT as keep-waiting states — the allocation is held, a resume
(or failover settle) may follow, and tearing down the attach on a
transient state is wrong.

Cluster-verified on t1: submit-to-attach-attempt 0.56-1.08s across
three runs (previously ~6s even after the jobPidInfo fix), full
submit/run/finish lifecycle clean, daemons healthy.

3545aa0d77 apiserver: apply the controller's jobPidInfo start-report push
handleNotifyData had no case for NotifyData_data_jobPidInfo, so the
controller's start-report push (apiserver_job_start_fun, fired from
HOOK_DETAIL_JOB_START the moment WAL_JOB_START commits) was silently
dropped. interactive_job_url then stayed invisible until the next
periodic rusage-driven job UPDATE re-delivered the full row — up to
10s later (job_rusage_collect_interval), the dominant chunk of an
-I --tty job's submit-to-first-output latency (measured ~6s on t1,
server-side work itself is ~0.6s).

Add OnJobPidInfo to the notification interface and DefaultHandler:
it merges the worker-reported pids/pgids and the exdata {"url": ...}
onto the already-stored job record (get-mutate-put, mirroring
OnJobFinished) and publishes a job.updated event. The CGO decode
side is factored into cPidInfoToRaw/pidInfoJSONB, shared with the
existing xce_job_t conversion.

Cluster-verified on t1: URL is pollable ~0.6s after submit
(previously ~11s), full submit/run/finish lifecycle clean, all
daemons healthy.

66a1d1e680 attach jobs end with their command: relay watcher, once-only start banner, worker-side ttyd cleanup
Three attach-mode (-I) fixes, verified end-to-end on the t1 cluster:

1. Session hang on job finish (job_attach.go): the relay's client->worker
pump blocked forever in ReadMessage after the worker hop closed, so the
old wg.Wait()-before-Close teardown never ran and the client hung, then
died with an abnormal 1006. A broker watcher now subscribes to
EventJobFinished and on job end sends the 4001 policy close and closes
both hops, unblocking the pumps; the teardown follows normally. The
   client (attach.go) treats 4001/1000/1001 -- and 1006-after-output as a
final safety net -- as a clean session end.

2. "<<Starting on t1 >>" printed repeatedly (submit.go): the status poll
printed the banner on every transition; now gated on a reportedStart
flag. The URL is also no longer printed in attach mode -- it only makes
sense for browse (-I --tty --browse) and DISPLAY jobs.

3. ttyd left behind after an attach job exits (xcecd_worker.c): a new
tty_stop_attach_session(), called from process_exit_callback for TTY
jobs, kills the per-job ttyd right away. This is insurance -- the sh -c
exec means uv_proc monitors ttyd's own pid, so ttyd is normally gone
before the callback fires -- but it guarantees no orphan when the
timing lines up badly. Web-viewed sessions are untouched: they keep
ttyd and output alive for later browsing, per design.

601f04dc00 feat(xcecli): bare -I maps to TTY attach interactive mode
-I without --xjob now means -I --tty: the submit attaches the interactive
session right in the calling terminal through the apiserver relay. The
previous bare -I mapping (interactive=3, readonly DISPLAY web view) had no
interactive input and gave the user no hint; --browse still opens the web
URL for TTY jobs and --xjob keeps the VNC path. The API's interactive=3
semantics are unchanged -- only this CLI's default remaps.

Help text updated: -I/--tty/--xjob descriptions and the long-help examples.

a8c3e91b59 feat(interactive): attach TTY sessions through the apiserver websocket relay
Step 2 of the interactive-job UX work: `-I --tty` now attaches the session
to the submitting terminal by default instead of opening a browser.

Producer/consumer shape (user clusters cannot reach worker ttyd ports):

  xcecli (-I --tty, raw terminal)
    <-> GET /xce/v1/jobs/:id/attach (JWT auth + job:control ownership)
      <-> ws://worker:ttyd-port/ws (ttyd)

apiserver (controllers/job_attach.go):
- new websocket relay endpoint, route gated by RequirePermission("job:control");
owner may always attach, others need a job:control scope covering the owner
- JWT accepted from the Authorization header or ?token= query param
(browser WebSocket API cannot set headers)
- bidirectional frame pump with policy close codes: 4000 = cannot reach the
session on the worker, 4001 = session ended
- the worker hop dials with the "tty" websocket subprotocol: ttyd 1.7.7
completes the handshake without it but then stays silent (verified against
  the deployed binary)

xcecli (cmd/jobs/attach.go):
- attach client: dials the relay, raw mode via golang.org/x/term, ttyd
wire format (TEXT hello {"AuthToken",columns, rows}; binary frames
'0'+input, '1'+resize JSON, output '0' to stdout), SIGWINCH resize
forwarding, terminal restored on every exit path
- submit.go: --browse flag opens the web URL instead of attaching (TTY jobs
attach by default; XJOB/VNC keeps the browser path); the URL line is
  always printed as a record
- waitForInteractiveURL no longer fails when the job is RUN but the worker's
start report (carrying the URL) has not landed yet -- poll and retry

Verified on t1: raw-client and real-xcecli attach round trips through the
relay (echo both ways), kill -> EXIT with URL retained, batch jobs unaffected,
all daemons healthy. Suites: meson 'apiserver backend' 1/1, CGO_ENABLED=0
controllers/router and xcecli tests green.

74121eb72e fix(apiserver): map pidinfo from job start into the job model (interactive_job_url)
The worker packs the interactive session URL (ttyd/XJOB) into the start
report's exdata as {"url": ...}; the controller stores it on
job->job.pidinfo->exdata and the capnp Job wire carries pidinfo (pidinfo@9,
JobPIDInfo.exdata@3) — but apiserver's cJobToModel never mapped pidinfo, so
models.JobInfo.InteractiveJobURL (declared only in the query-field whitelist
JobAdditionalFields) had no producer and interactive_job_url was permanently
empty in API responses. xcecli's waitForInteractiveURL/openBrowser flow could
never fire.

- models.JobInfo: add InteractiveJobURL (json interactive_job_url, matching
  the JobAdditionalFields whitelist name).
- convert_pure.go: rawPidInfo (pids/pgids/exdata) + interactiveURLFromExdata;
rawJobToModel marshals pids/pgids into PIDInfo (pid_info is a JSONBJFields
entry, parsed by processJobData) and promotes the exdata URL to
  InteractiveJobURL.
- convert.go: cJobToModel extracts job.pidinfo via pidinfo_pid/pidinfo_pgid
cgo helpers (CGO cannot index the C arrays directly).

Cluster-verified end to end on t1 (fresh apiserver deployed): tty job
(xcecli -I --tty equivalent, exdata {"interactive":1}) now returns
interactive_job_url=http://<worker>:9000 and a populated pid_info; non-tty
jobs return ""/no pid_info. All daemons healthy, zero errors in window.

0c8607345e merge: sync Rongsong's scheduler-framework (c5b172c7..3442a57d, 781 commits)
Merge origin/scheduler-framework into merge-sf-20260903 (97 commits on
ours: bug-1490/1494/1498/1509/1513/1521/1522 fixes, PEND-reason P1,
scheduler-agent Phase 2, bug-924 owner-pid shim).

Bookkeeping excluded per policy: .kiro/, .wolf/, CHANGES.md, reports/
(92 files dropped); .claude/ + CLAUDE.md keep ours.

Key theirs-side changes absorbed:
- bug-1938/1960: QUEUE_STAT_CLOSED no longer gates dispatch (closed
queue refuses new submissions only; pending jobs still run) --
  supersedes our QUEUE_CLOSED preason on the dispatch path;
  sched_queue_status_reason drops that branch
- bug-1846: config push now stashes and applies between scheduling
  rounds (sched_stash_config/sched_apply_pending_config), applied at
the same main-thread round boundary that preserves bug-1513
  serialization
- bug-1760: sched_check_pending_rejoin exposed +
  xcecli_is_connection_broken public predicate
- bug-1936: execuser/exechome/execcwd/exdata carried on submission
(superset of our bug-1500 execuser fallback; our job-typed
  resolveExecUser removed as dead code)
- bug-1945~1962: apiserver auth hardening (HS256 pinning, default-
secret rejection, logout revocation, bcrypt, RBAC) -- our API-key
branch folded into controllers.ParseTokenClaims so both coexist
- bug-1736: rawRunUsage job run-usage fields in the Go model
- xce_test relocated src/controller/testsuite/test.c ->
  src/harness/test.c; controller suite split into
controller_test.c + fixtures; their clitest fixtures spawn xce_test
  mid-suite under `meson test -j`

Ours preserved across the merge:
- PEND-reason P1 (codes 1-9, preason.h, job_preason machinery) --
gate re-ported into their relocated allocator (sched_election.c)
after plugin_job_election, with attach on the allocator thread
  only (bug-1521 race discipline)
- PEND-reason P0 main_reason semantics RECONCILED to theirs: the
  merge initially re-carried our first-detail-add-promotes-main_reason
fallback in add_job_preason (4e2ac86), but their whole trace/verify
  stack treats "detail-only => main_reason 0" as a contract --
sched_trace_capture counts main_reason as its own occurrence
("Expected 2 Was 3" in test_trace_capture), the outcome renderer
prints "main reason: none" for detail-only PENDs (test_repl_trace_e2e),
and the committed .replay/.sim_verify baselines encode main_reason=0
  (test_repl_trace_baseline byte compare, test_trace_equivalence
  off-vs-traced). The fallback is dropped from the shared lib;
the user-visible "overall reason" survives as an API-layer view:
rawJobToModel (convert_pure.go) promotes the first detail row to
  main_reason_name when main_reason is 0 (main_reason VALUE marshals
unchanged). add_job_preason keeps only the NULL-reasons guard
- bug-1498: sched_job_is_ready rejects non-PEND/suspended jobs
- bug-1490/1781: xce_jobctrl_t.action as capnp union discriminant
  (their jobCtrlUnionDiscriminant, same semantics)
- xcecli typed PendingReason field (53c00834), bug-1522 reconnect
  resend, xcecli_force_reconnect + their is_connection_broken both
  exported in client.h/libclient
- t1/t2/t3 test-node hostconfig in src/configs/hosts.yaml (bug-1494),
  /xce/v1/events + /xce/v1/apikeys whitelist routes (agent Phase 2)
- lib ASAN_OPTIONS=detect_leaks=0 test env + their oom-test block
- drop-audit: our bug-1504 fix covered by their bug-1680 (no action)

bug-924 follow-up (replaces the 67f3f6ad scratch-dir wipe): the
take-theirs audit's one "drop" was re-evaluated and REVERTED instead of
re-applied -- a global `find /tmp -name 'xce_*' -exec rm -rf` at suite
start/exit races the LIVE /tmp/xce_* fixtures of sibling suites under
`meson test -j` (harness_unit_test's clitest fixtures spawn xce_test as
a child mid-suite; the wipe destroyed the parent's fixtures ->
test_test_cli failures). Coverage instead:
- mkdtemp_clean shim gains mkdtemp_clean_mark/sweep_since
  (testsuite_support/mkdtemp_clean.[ch])
- new case_scratch_sweep.[ch]: aggregate runners (controller_test.c,
harness_test.c -- hundreds of cases per process) call
  case_scratch_sweep_begin/_end_ok from setUp/tearDown; a PASSED case's
dirs are swept immediately in tearDown (after engine reaping), FAILED
cases keep their dirs for post-mortem; XCE_MKDTEMP_KEEP_ALL=1
disables. One full controller_unit_test run was observed to leak 12G+
to ENOSPC without this, cascading into unrelated "Expected Non-NULL"
  failures
- harness_unit_test_deps links the shim library as well

Test reconciliations on adopt:
- core-ready-gates: sched_queue_is_ready now gates only
  INACT_ADMIN|INACT_WINDOW (bug-1938/1960); CLOSED queues elect --
  covered end-to-end by test_queue_admin_control.c
- test_worker_resync: the 4 restart-replay RUN assertions predate the
bug-1509 B3 marking (8858afed) landing on the same lineage; replayed
  RUN jobs now assert RUN|UNKWN|TRANSIENT (TWR_ASSERT_REPLAYED_RUN);
  terminal DONE/EXIT assertions unchanged
- convert_pure.go: our job-typed resolveExecUser deleted (superseded
  by their bug-1780/1936 two-arg version)
- test_preason: the 3 P0-promotion assertions reverted to the
detail-keeps-main-0 contract; new tests cover limit-code detail
  rows and explicit-main-wins-over-later-details; apiserver
  convert_test.go gains the detail-only name-promotion cases

fix(apiserver): restart carries only the options a job gets (bug-1968)
RestartJobByID rebuilt the new job from the old job's row:
- it accepted asked_hosts and copied asked hosts, I/O paths and out_dir,
which no job gets (refused at submit since bug-1936); restart now
  refuses asked_hosts with 400 and no longer carries those over;
- it read the JSONB columns chkpnt_info/extend_data as strings, but rows
keep models.Jsonb, so env/limits were lost and a checkpointed job never
  restarted from its checkpoint; new rowJSON() reads both;
- it read "res_req" (the column is "resreq"), losing the resource
  requirement, and never copied exec_home.

fix(apiserver): reject submit options the job never gets; add exec_home (bug-1936)
Cause: CreateJob accepted in_file, out_file, err_file, out_dir,
asked_hosts, begin_time, term_time and transfer_files and returned
success, but neither the controller's submit data/start info nor the
worker carries any of them (the worker never stages transferred files),
so they were silently dropped. Exec home had no submit field at all, and
a relative cwd would have been resolved against the worker unit's
directory.

Fix: new preCheckSubmitOptions() runs right after binding, before file
uploads and ID allocation, and answers 400 naming every unsupported
option that is set; cwd and the new exec_home field must be absolute and
fit the worker's job_assignment_t buffers (1023 bytes). exec_home goes
to JobInfo.ExecHome and from there (submitStartInfo) to the start info's
exechome. num_files already reaches exdata as nofile_limit; a handler
test now pins it. The array %J/%I submit-time substitution test (9.4)
checks cwd instead of out_file/err_file, which are now refused. Swagger
regenerated with `swag init -g cmd/main.go -o docs`.

fix(apiserver): answer the controller's queue rejections as client errors (bug-1960)
Since the controller rejects submissions to closed or unknown queues
(E_XCE_QUEUE_CLOSED, E_XCE_BAD_QUEUE), the apiserver answered them as a 500
"xcecli_jobsubmit failed: -10016". SubmitJob now maps them to
backend.ErrQueueClosed / ErrQueueInvalid (numbers checked against errnox.h
at compile time), and the submit and restart handlers answer 400 naming
the queue, as the apiserver's own pre-check does. This covers a queue
closed between that check and the controller's.

docs(apiserver): fix swag annotations and regenerate the swagger spec (bug-1966)
Cause: the handler annotations referenced types that do not exist
(models.Error, ErrorResponse, JobsResponse, JobSignalRequest,
JobControlResponseSummary, unqualified JobSubmitRequest), had malformed
@Param/@Failure lines and /api/v1 paths, and there was no general API
info, so `swag init -g cmd/main.go` failed and docs/ stayed a stale stub.

Fix: use the real response envelopes (JsonStruct / JsonErrStruct) and
request models, the real routes under @BasePath /xce/v1, add general info
to cmd/main.go, and regenerate docs/ with `swag init -g cmd/main.go -o
docs`; the spec now has /jobs/{jobids}/control and /jobs/control.

fix(apiserver): check the default queue exists and is open on submit (bug-1960)
Cause: preCheckJobRequest (controllers/jobs.go) ran the reserved-name,
existence and closed checks only when a queue name was given; an empty
name was set to "normal" and skipped them, so jobs were accepted into a
closed default queue.

Fix: default the name first, then run the same checks for every
submission. Two existing tests now seed the default queue. (The controller
side of bug-1960 is fixed separately.)

fix(apiserver): match JWT-excluded paths exactly, wildcard only for /* (bug-1962)
Cause: isExcludedPath (middleware/validatehandler.go) dropped the last
character of every excluded entry and prefix-matched, so /ping excused any
path starting with /pin (e.g. /pinX) from JWT validation, while
/swagger/*any (trimmed to /swagger/*an) never matched.

Fix: entries match exactly; an entry whose last segment is a gin catch-all

fix(apiserver): stop ControlHost after validateHost rejects the request (bug-1961)
Cause: validateHost (controllers/hosts.go) wrote a 403 via ReturnError
without aborting, so ControlHost's ctx.IsAborted() check never fired and it
went on to write a second (202) response; the permission was also checked
once per host and not at all for an empty host list.

Fix: validateHost writes no response; it checks host:control once up front
and returns an error, on which ControlHost writes a single 403 and returns.
For "all", the host list is resolved before the one validateHost call.

fix(apiserver): require rbac:control scope all to create, extend or delete roles (bug-1958)
Cause: RoleController.CreateRole, AddPermissionsForRole and

cluster:control to a role it holds.

Fix: checkRoleChangePermission() in controllers/roles.go refuses with 403

rbac:control with scope all, reusing canChangeUserRoles from bug-1952.

feat(xcecli): jobs kill --signal and --force
The control API already takes `signal` (kill only: that signal once,
instead of the graceful INT, TERM, KILL sequence) and `force_kill`
(SIGKILL at once); xcecli could not send either. `jobs kill` now has
-s/--signal <name|number> (names in any case, SIG prefix optional, sent
upper case without it) and --force, in both the job-ID and the filter
request; using both at once, or an empty signal, is refused before any
request. stop and resume get neither (the server rejects a signal there).
Kill help and docs/xce.md "Killing and stopping jobs" document the flags.

fix(xcecli): call the logout API so the token is revoked (bug-1959)
xcecli logout only removed the token from the local config, so the token
stayed valid on the server until it expired. It now first sends
POST /xce/v1/auth/logout with the bearer token (APIClient.Logout), which
revokes it server side since bug-1946. Best effort: if the server is
unreachable or rejects the token, the local login info is still cleared
and a warning says the revocation could not be confirmed.

docs: document graceful job kill/stop and job.terminate_interval (bug-1957)
- src/docs/xce.md: explicit signal and force kill are REST-only (signal,

- src/docs/deployment.md: app.yaml row lists the job block
  (max_array_size, terminate_interval) and trusted proxies.
- xcecli jobs kill/stop/resume help describes the signal sequences.
- REST: control endpoint annotations and the signal/force_kill model fields
describe the behaviour (swagger output not regenerated: swag fails on an

fix(worker): graceful job kill and catchable stop, as LSF (bug-1957)
A plain kill sent one SIGTERM and never escalated, and a plain stop sent
one uncatchable SIGSTOP. Following LSF's TERMINATE and SUSPEND actions, a
plain kill now sends SIGINT, then SIGTERM, then SIGKILL, and a plain stop
sends SIGTSTP (the job can catch it, prepare and stop itself), then SIGSTOP
if it has not stopped; each next signal follows after the grace period and
only while the job is alive (or not yet stopped). A resume cancels a
pending stop; the job's exit ends any sequence. An explicit signal is
delivered once; a force kill is SIGKILL at once.

- JobSignal gains grace (capnp @2, xce_signal_t.grace): > 0 asks for the
  sequence, in seconds between signals.
- apiserver: job.terminate_interval (default 10 s, LSF's
JOB_TERMINATE_INTERVAL); jobCtrlParams sends kill = SIGKILL and stop =
SIGSTOP with that grace when no signal is given; the handler no longer
  pre-fills a default signal.
- worker: grace travels through the job-control task, the kept-signal table
(pending_signal_*_ex) and the IPC message; the job process runs the
sequence (job_signal_seq_*, uv timer) and checks stop state in /proc.

fix(worker): deliver the job-control signal the user asked for (bug-1954)
worker_signal_callback() sent SIGTERM for a KILL request without force and
SIGSTOP for any TSTP request. job_signal_to_deliver() (new job_signal.c) now
delivers the requested signal; only a forced terminate escalates to SIGKILL.
The apiserver's default signal for a plain stop becomes SIGSTOP (it was
TSTP and relied on the worker's substitution), so a plain stop still
suspends jobs that ignore SIGTSTP.

fix(apiserver): only rbac:control scope all may change user roles (bug-1952)
Cause: AddRolesForUser and DeleteRolesForUser let an rbac:control grant
narrower than all (e.g. scope self, an accepted domain type for rbac
permissions) change roles whenever the target user was the caller, so a
user holding only rbac:control/self could grant itself cluster_admin
(confirmed by TestAddRolesForUser_SelfScopeCannotGrantItselfRoles: HTTP
200 and cluster_admin assigned).

Fix: canChangeUserRoles requires an rbac:control grant with scope all
(checked over every grant, before deduplication prefers a narrower scope)
to grant or revoke roles for any user, the caller included; anything else
gets 403. Chosen over a "cannot grant permissions you do not hold" rule
because a scoped role change has no safe meaning here and the subset
check across domains would be complex and easy to get wrong.

fix(apiserver): revoke the token on logout (bug-1946)
Cause: Logout only deleted tokens/<user>/token, a file that token
validation (ValidateHandler / GetUsernameFromToken) never reads, so a
logged-out token stayed valid until its expiry (24 h by default).

Fix: an in-memory revocation set (controllers/token_revocation.go) keyed
by the token's jti (generateJWT now sets a random uuid jti, so two logons
in the same second give different tokens) or, for tokens without a jti,
by SHA-256 of the token; each entry is kept until the token's expiry and
expired entries are purged on every revocation. Logout revokes the token;
the shared ParseTokenClaims (used by ValidateHandler, RequirePermission
and handlers via GetUsernameFromToken) rejects revoked tokens. A missing
token file no longer fails logout. Scope: per process, not persisted and
not shared between apiservers.

Tests: TestLogout_RevokesToken (middleware), TestTokenRevocations_*,

fix(apiserver): never sign or accept JWTs with the shipped default secret (bug-1945)
Cause: config/app.yaml shipped secretKey "xce-api-key" and
resolveJWTSecret used it whenever XCE_JWT_SECRET was unset, so anyone
could forge tokens for any user on such a deployment.

Fix: resolveJWTSecret uses XCE_JWT_SECRET, else the config value, but
treats an empty value or the old public default as unset; then it
generates a random 256-bit per-process secret and InitConf logs a warning
(secret never logged): tokens do not survive a restart and apiservers
sharing one endpoint must set the same XCE_JWT_SECRET. The shipped
app.yaml no longer carries a secret. The controllers test secret is no

fix(apiserver): trust X-Forwarded-For only from configured proxies (bug-1948)
Cause: the router used gin.Default() without SetTrustedProxies, and gin
then trusts forwarding headers from every peer, so ClientIP() returned
whatever X-Forwarded-For a client sent: the IP whitelist and the IP bound
into JWTs could be spoofed.

Fix: new app.yaml option security.trusted_proxies (IP or CIDR list,

fix(apiserver): abort the request on every middleware failure (bug-1949)
Cause: ReturnError only writes the response and never aborts the gin
chain; RequirePermission (token error) and WhitelistIPMiddleware (invalid
client IP) returned after ReturnError without ctx.Abort(), so the route
handler still ran after the rejection.

Fix: ctx.Abort() after ReturnError at both sites (and, for clarity, on the
ValidateHandler body-check path, which validateRequestBody already
aborted). RequirePermission now answers a bad token with 401 instead of
500. ReturnError stays non-aborting (documented): handlers such as
ControlHost call it from helpers and then test ctx.IsAborted(), so a
global abort would change handler flows, and it adds nothing in handlers.

fix(apiserver): bcrypt passwords and default-credential warnings in config-file auth (bug-1947)
Cause: ConfigFileProvider.Authenticate compared the stored plaintext
password with != (timing side channel, passwords readable from the file),
and config/auth.yaml shipped admin/admin, user1/user1 etc. as plaintext
with nothing reporting that a default credential was active.

Fix: auth.yaml passwords may be bcrypt hashes (golang.org/x/crypto/bcrypt,
v0.23.0 as already pinned in go.mod, now vendored); plaintext entries are
still accepted but compared in constant time (SHA-256 + subtle), and an
unknown user costs the same bcrypt work. The provider reports startup
warnings (SecurityWarner, logged by main) for every plaintext entry and for
every shipped default credential still active. The shipped auth.yaml and

tests/regression/run.sh (admin/admin) keeps working. tools/encrypt gains

fix(apiserver): send the requested signal, force kill and checkpoint options (bug-1940)
Cause: ControlJob (backend/clib.go) looked its content argument up as a
signal name, but the job control handlers pass a JSON JobControlEvent, so
the lookup always missed and every kill sent TERM (stop TSTP, resume
CONT); sig.force and ckpt.kill were hard-coded to 0 and the checkpoint
method was never set.

Fix: new pure jobCtrlParams (backend/convert_pure.go) decodes the event
(or a bare signal name/number), validates the signal against
JobSignalMapTable and returns an error instead of falling back, and maps
force_kill to xce_signal_t.force (kill) or xce_ckpt_options_t.kill

from it. Tests: backend/jobctrl_params_test.go.

fix(apiserver): send exdata, exec cwd and exec home with submitted jobs (bug-1936)
Cause: modelJobToSubmit() filled only cmdline, execuser, launch_type and
pre/post-exec of job_startinfo_t, so the extended data the submit handler
builds (env, *_limit incl. -W run limit, file transfers, interactive mode),
the cwd and the exec home never reached the controller or the worker.

Fix: map the start info in a pure submitStartInfo() (exdata from
ExtendData, execcwd from ExecCWD or CWD, exechome from ExecHome) that
modelJobToSubmit copies into the C struct; decode exdata back in
cJobToModel/cJobArrayToModels so the store keeps ExtendData and CWD.

fix(apiserver): enforce self_ug job scopes and accept project filters (bug-1934, bug-1935)
bug-1934: every job-permission check read a single scope and compared it
only with "self", so a job:view or job:control grant scoped to self_ug acted
like "all" (list, get by ID, control), and self + self_ug collapsed to self.
userJobScope() now collects all of a user's grants of a job permission
before deduplication and adds them up (all; self; self_ug = the user and
everyone sharing a user group). The job list appends a submit_user filter
for narrower scopes, get-by-ID keeps covered rows in a new slice (removing
from the ranged slice skipped rows) and answers 403, both control paths
and job output check the owner against the scope. User groups now reach
the apiserver: the config push converts cluster_config_t.ugroups and
OnUserGroupsUpdated() replaces the new store (nested groups, all,
exclusions). The default basic_user now also sees its user-group mates'
jobs, as its configuration says.

fix(controller, apiserver, xcecli): expose job CPU peak and efficiency to the apiserver and xcecli (bug-1736)
The controller computed run usage (CPU time, memory, CPU peak and
efficiency, LSF bjobs -l definitions) but the capnp Job struct had no
field for it, so the job pushed to the apiserver never carried it, and
snapshots (the same struct) dropped it: a job restored from a checkpoint
lost its accumulated usage.

- controller.capnp: Job.runUsage @13 (JobRunusage); old entries decode
  with no run usage.
- apiserver: map run_usage into JobInfo; max_mem, avg_mem, used_mem,

fix(frontend): peek and restart take <array-id>[k] and written job IDs
- apiserver peek (parseJobIDParam): <array-id>[k] now resolves to the
element; it used to drop [k] and look up the array identity itself
(and panicked in parseArrayName on some inputs). A job number still
names that job exactly (an element by its own XCE_JOBID); ranges and
  invalid selections are rejected.
- apiserver restart: the decimal-only pre-check (isValidJobId, now
  unused and removed) rejected the written form c-a-ts-seq[k];
ParseIdentitySelection, already used for the lookup, validates it.
- xcecli jobs restart converts its argument with ToAPIJobID like the
control commands, so written IDs work and invalid ones fail locally.

RestartJobByID looked the job up with a job_id CompCondition, which the

ParseIdentitySelection, fetches the rows by key and matches them with

feat(job-array-one-based-index): xcecli list and control use the selection parser (task 8.2)
ID lists split only at commas outside brackets and every selection is
validated before any request (control allows identity ranges, listing
refuses them). A raw -J value with brackets is checked before the
wildcard mapping, and the search rule and * stripping apply to the
name part only (-J 'foo*[1]' lists element 1 of arrays whose name
starts with foo); values without brackets map exactly as before.
Control results print each item's own job ID when the server sends it,
so a pre-upgrade element 0 shows as <array-id>[0]. Control and list
help show <array-id>[k] and <array-id>[a-b]; list help now says -J.
