bug-1928: repl_count_jobs() and repl_info_jobs() never destroyed their
job-table iterators (16 B per continue round); both now do, and the
baseline and trace wiring tests run with leak detection on.
bug-1929: continue-mode round summaries listed only pending jobs, so a
dispatch-only round printed an empty jobids= and rounds dispatching
different jobs collapsed together; rounds now record and list every
affected job (scheduler-sim-repl-verbosity Req 2.1, 3.2). The baseline
transcript changes only in its two jobids= lines.
bug-1930: trace on job now accepts the raw decimal jobid form that info
trace and info job accept, through a shared parser.

Task 6.4: a 1000-host, 64-task parallel job traced at full level stores
exactly the line bound with exact omitted counts and counters; 10,000
traced decisions keep the trace store within 64 MiB without evicting the
newest. The scheduler guide lists the REPL trace files and test rules
and carries measured file sizes. Full all-components ASAN build passes.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 6.3: the contention and extra replays run with tracing off, all
jobs at summary and full level, and a job subset, in step and continue
mode; decisions, full pend reasons, --sim-output recordings, snapshots,
--sim-verify results and per-step accounting dumps are identical.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 6.2: injects plan-claims growth, snapshot, finalize, host-scan,
per-host uncommitted lookup, allocation-function and unknown-jobid
faults and asserts each traced outcome. Also fixes two deferred OOM
paths: a failed limit row keeps the host's verdict bits, and an array
listing that cannot be built is reported instead of silently truncated.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 6.1: drives the real simulator REPL with tracing on for all and
selected jobs at both levels, asserting every Requirement 2-6 section,
ordering in step and continue mode and at breakpoints, info trace at a
breakpoint, after finish, for arrays and after a units change, and a
byte-identical trace file copy.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
repl_cmd_quit() (quit and EOF) released the trace settings while the
picker and allocator threads could still run; at a mid-session
breakpoint the allocator reads core->trace_ctl unlocked on every job
pop, a possible use-after-free just before exit. quit now cancels and
joins both threads first, as sched_sim_driver_run() does on return.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 5.3: session hooks around each sim session; trace-only decisions
are handled first and skip verification, recording, echo and
breakpoints; traced decisions are emitted after the echo gate and before
the breakpoint check; reconstructed dispatches get reconstructed
records; unclaimed traces are freed at both decision free sites.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 5.2: trace is routed with the raw line and info trace through info;
help gains a Trace section; set output rejects open trace files; quit
and EOF shut tracing down; the continue-mode rollup reports a traced
round on its own; repl.h gains the interactive-only trace gates. The
baseline transcript changes only in the help and info-usage lines.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 5.1: the 26 white-box tests that include repl.c or sim_loop.c now
include the REPL trace sources (and the core trace sources where no
hooked source brings them); sched_sim_isolation_lib carries all trace
sources and the sim isolation test scans the REPL trace files.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 4.6: session begin makes the next settings current, stamps the
session number and publishes them to the core; session end withdraws and
releases them. Emission marks the round traced, flushes the collapsed
range and reprints the suppressed echo in continue mode, renders to the
console and the trace file with identical bytes, and stores the record.
sim_print_decision is exported unchanged.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 4.5: a named trace file is opened for appending at command time;
an open failure or a path that is the sim output file or the scheduler
log (same device and inode) is rejected with settings unchanged; files
close when their last settings holder releases them; set output gets a
conflict check; shutdown flushes and closes every trace file and frees
the store.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 4.3: trace on all|job SEL... [level] [lines N] [file PATH], off and
status, parsed from the raw line; invalid arguments are named and leave
the settings unchanged; refcounted next/current settings; status shows
the settings in effect or pending, whole arrays as <base>[*], and stored
trace memory against its bound.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 4.2: a new trace replaces a job's earlier one; above 64 MiB the
oldest traces are evicted (never the newest) and marked discarded until
a newer capture; info trace renders a job's or an array's stored traces
in the current units mode, or reports discarded / no trace with the
job's state / unknown job.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 4.1: hierarchy, summary-level position summaries, truncation marker
with the fixed totals block, 50-host outcome cap with aggregates and
separate limit charges, no-decision and reconstructed records, amounts
in the REPL units mode, identical bytes to one or two sinks.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 3.4: the runner records no-plan reasons, the cluster-wide check,
plans (tried, discarded, not tried) and their ends, positions, claimed
skips and per-host candidate verdicts, rollbacks, commit or finalize
failure, and search end. A declined or generator-failed requirement now
counts once as 'no plan generated'. Runner results are unchanged.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 3.3: the pre-filter records selection mismatches and internal
errors as host verdicts, a scan stopped by an error marks the position
as a scan error, and unsatisfy_() hands every checked row to the current
record. Iterator and check results are unchanged.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 3.2: single requirements, top-level compounds, alternatives and
members push their path level and record one begin and one end; member
failures record the members not tried, merge failures and skipped
alternatives are separate entries, the chosen alternative or all-failed
is recorded, and each compound attempt's reasons are captured before the
job's stored reason is replaced. Scheduling results are unchanged.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 3.1: when the sim publishes trace settings, sched_allocator() counts
job positions, starts a record for wanted jobs with their selection and
cluster-wide limits, pushes no-decision kinds as trace-only decisions,
and attaches the captured outcome to built decisions; every handoff
clears core->trace_rec. Live (trace_ctl NULL) is unchanged.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 2.4: outcome capture moves to sched_trace_outcome.c and the
position/host/summary/rollback half of the model to sched_trace_scan.c;
shared helpers go behind sched_trace_internal.h (sti_ prefix). Code is
moved unchanged; every target that compiles the trace sources gets all
four, and the core isolation scan covers the new files.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 2.1: policy, queue and priority/queue-time ordering keys, each
matched cluster-wide limit as (name, scope), and per-code attempt
failure reasons with the hosts and resources they name, all copied into
the record arena.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 1.8: the core gains trace_ctl/trace_rec (NULL unless the sim REPL
sets them) and SCHED_TRACE evaluates its call only while a record is
being built.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 1.7: xce_decision_t gains a trace pointer (NULL from every existing
constructor) and XCE_DECISION_TRACE with make_trace_decision(); the live
driver skips trace-only decisions and frees any attached trace.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
xce_scheduler --sim started with no shared resource pool when the shared
values came only from the recording's SnapshotEntry (license value=(none)),
so jobs needing a shared resource pended instead of dispatching. Two
defects caused it:
- Load side (snapshot_load.c): a resval was treated as shared only when
rv->host == NULL. The capnp round trip (write_snapshot_entry ->
decode_SnapshotEntry) reads a NULL host back as "", so every shared
resval in a .replay file was skipped. A NULL or empty host now means
the shared pool; only a named host marks per-worker data.
- Save side (snapshot.c, snapshot_wire.c): core->sharedInst and each
worker's resvals were walked with i < .count. zarray_t.count is the
number of filled slots, not the highest idx + 1, and both arrays are
sparse by resource idx, so higher-index values were dropped from the
snapshot. Both loops are now bounded by .caps, as repl_info.c already is.
New test test_snapshot_sparse_resvals.c covers the in-memory save/load,
the empty-host load, and the real sched_record_start() -> .replay ->
sched_sim_driver_start() round trip.
Regenerated fixtures/repl_trace_baseline/set_output.replay: its mid-run
snapshot now carries license, limit=cluster_slots and each worker's
limit=host_slots, which the old writer dropped (all other fixtures
unchanged).

Task 1.3: trace types and constants, per-record arena, job selection
matching, no-decision record finishing; empty capture module; both
sources scanned by the core isolation test with a no-stdio check.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Task 1.1: scripted REPL session over a contention replay (license, cluster
and host limits, parallel and alternative jobs); transcript, recordings and
--sim-verify result committed as fixtures and compared byte for byte.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
A job whose snapshot resreq fails to parse (any replay captured before
the bug-1888 fix) is kept by xce_sched_core_load_snapshot() with no
schedobj, but was still made a picker candidate -- by the loader and, in
simulation mode, by sim_bootstrap_picker()'s picker rebuild. The
allocator thread then dereferenced the NULL schedobj in
limit_job_election() and xce_scheduler --sim crashed.
Both push sites now skip such a job (it stays in the core so a restored
allocation is still charged), and sched_allocator() skips any picked job
without a schedobj as a backstop.

Comments in scheduler sources and tests that presented the deleted
my_alloc()/parjob claim helpers as current code now name
sched_allocator_run() and its runner helpers; test helpers and tests
named after my_alloc are renamed. No logic or expectation changes.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
seqjob registers sched_allocator_run with seqjob_alloc_iface (no accepts
guard, plus its one-bucket plan iterator); its private my_alloc() is
gone. New fixtures pin the intended changes: a reason for every short
host, the bug-1893 shared reason, the host-stage OOM debit release, and
-EINVAL for missing inputs; seqjob's plan is asserted to be one bucket of
one slot. No other test expectation changed.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
sched_finalize_job_alloc_() turns a satisfied plan's claims into the job
allocation exactly as parjob's commit tail does (host records from the
claim-time snapshots in claim order, shared records, jobid 0, no
duration) and publishes ctx->alloc only on success. Every out-of-memory
step frees what it built and releases the debits of claims not yet
turned into host allocations; each claim snapshot is freed exactly once.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The runner tries the plugin's plans in order and claims one distinct host
per bucket, with parjob's rollback and claim snapshots, nslots/nhosts per
candidate, a growable claims buffer and malformed-plan skipping. It
clears alloc_req.host before every candidate so each short host gets its
pend reasons (Req 3.6/3.7). Result assembly follows in task 3.3; until
then a satisfied plan's claims are released and the attempt pends.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
New alloc_runner.c: sched_allocator_run() validates its inputs (-EINVAL
without touching the pend reason), applies the plugin's optional accepts
guard, creates the pend-reason record, then checks shared resources: one
host-less NO_RESOURCE reason per unmet entry (skip only on vget < 0,
fixing bug-1893) and the met amounts counted once as uncommitted. Plan
search follows in task 3.2. Runner tests use a fake allocator contract;
the pend-reason factory audit now scans the runner.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
15 tests drive the real parjob plugin through job_alloc_fn: success,
short shared, pending on hosts, mid-plan rollback, task counts 0/1,
missing inputs, six OOM steps with their debits, COMPOUND. Values the
runner changes on purpose sit in *_today tests.
Spec: the task showed that parjob records host reasons only for a bucket
search's first rejected candidate (the rejected host's request stays in
alloc_req.host and the host iterator pre-filters later hosts against
it). Decision: the runner clears alloc_req.host before every candidate,
for both allocators, so every short host gets its reasons (Req 3.6/3.7);
publishing reasons only when they change is a follow-up.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
12 tests drive the real seqjob plugin through job_alloc_fn and record
today's results, reasons and debits, with switch-stable OOM injection
(sched_make_allocs stub, --wrap of make_host_alloc/make_job_alloc).
Assertions the runner changes on purpose sit in *_today tests.
The characterization showed bug-1893's real effect: vget() returns 0 on
success, so the shared-reason loop (rc <= 0 skip) never records a shared
NO_RESOURCE reason. Bug record and spec wording corrected; the runner
skips only on rc < 0.

make_alloc() and make_host_alloc() assigned strdup() results unchecked,
so under memory exhaustion they returned a record whose resname/reserve/
host was NULL; merge_job_alloc()'s same_alloc_slot() (bug-1863) then
strcmp()'d it (ASAN SEGV at xcealloc.c:337). make_alloc() also passed a
NULL resname straight to strdup().
- xcealloc.c: make_alloc()/make_host_alloc() reject a NULL name (EINVAL)
and check every strdup(), freeing what they built and returning NULL
(ENOMEM); on failure make_host_alloc()'s caller keeps `allocs`.
dup_host_alloc() frees its partial copy on failure instead of leaking.
- scheduler.c sched_make_allocs(): a record that cannot be built fails
the whole array (NULL, ENOMEM) instead of leaving a NULL entry.
- seqjob/parjob my_alloc(): check every constructor; on failure free
what was built (parjob also rolls back the remaining claims) and
return -ENOMEM with ctx->alloc NULL -- the caller moves ctx.alloc onto
the job whatever the rc.
Tests: new xcealloc_oom_test (8, --wrap=strdup) and
sched_make_allocs_oom_test (real scheduler_srcs + --wrap=strdup); a new
-ENOMEM test in the seqjob and parjob allocator suites. All RED before
(SEGV / "Expected NULL" / "Expected -12 Was 1"), GREEN after.
xce-build.sh all asan: 115/115 suites OK, Go tests OK.

sched_publish_retry_loop() calls sched_check_pending_rejoin() after every
successful publish -- inside the driver's decision-drain loop -- so after a
client-library reconnect the scheduler re-joins mid-round. The controller
answers every join (on_scheduler_join(), controller/sched.c) by re-pushing
config, workers and jobs. handler.c applied the config push synchronously
on the handler thread: sched_init_config() -> sched_init_queues() ->
builtin_fcfs on_queue_update(), which nulls the picker cursor when it
reinserts the queue the cursor rests on. next_job() then returned NULL and
the round ended with the rest of the queue never considered.
Evidence (scheduler-replay-20260923-085356.replay, temporary event-stream
diagnostics, reverted): 9 recorded rounds end after 11-12 decisions; every
one is followed by a workersPush + full 50-job jobsPush (the join's resync,
reporting just-dispatched jobs back as PEND), every full-length dispatching
round has none, and the config push never appears because it bypassed the
pending-update queue the recorder writes from -- which is also why replay
could not reproduce the truncation.
Fix (defer to the round edge, same direction as bug-1813): handler.c now
calls new sched_stash_config(), parking the Conf4Sched in new
xce_scheduler_t.pending_config under pending_config_lock (an older
unapplied push is freed). main.c's loop calls new
sched_apply_pending_config() before each round, running the unchanged
sched_init_config() strictly between sessions. sched_fini() frees a
never-applied push.
Tests:
- test_handlers.c: test_config_push_is_stashed_not_applied_on_handler_thread
-- RED (sched_init_config called on the handler thread), GREEN after.
- new test_config_push_deferred.c (sched_config_push_deferred_test): real
scheduler_req_handler() + real builtin_fcfs mid-session -- RED (next_job()
returned NULL right after the push), GREEN (session walks the remaining
jobs; configver unchanged until applied once between rounds).
- test_admin_request.c / test_job_array_expand.c / test_job_array_wire_e2e.c
#include handler.c directly and get a link stub for sched_stash_config().
Full scheduler suite 87/87 (asan).
Not addressed: config pushes are still not written to a recording (a
replay spanning a config change won't see it); the ~100s reconnect churn
itself (see bug-1812/1813).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
match_job_host_limit_() (plugins/limit.c) runs on every per-host
allocation attempt via limit_prepare_allocation(), and unconditionally
xlist_store()d the matched vres into obj->hlimits[worker->idx]. That list
is only rebuilt by limit_job_election() on a configver bump, so a job that
kept pending on the same host gained one more copy per attempt.
sched_fill_limit_requests() then staged every copy into
ctx->alloc_req.host, and seqjob's make_host_alloc() built a host alloc
carrying all of them.
Found via temporary per-decision --sim-verify diagnostics (reverted, not
committed) against scheduler-replay-20260923-085356.replay: pc13v host
allocs held mem + slots + ~70 identical limit entries (72) instead of 3.
After the fix the replay side is always 3 entries, and the LIVE recording
itself still shows the inflation (72/81/96/114/138/177 entries, resetting
only on a config push) -- so this is a production bug, not sim-only.
make_job_account() creates one res_account per entry and
sched_update_res_accounts() charges each, so the host limit was charged
(and later released) N-fold.
Fix: hlimits_contains_() pointer-identity check (vres is interned per name
in privdata->instances); a matched vres is stored once per (job, worker).
Test: test_limit_host_dedup.c (sched_limit_host_dedup_test) -- five
plugin_prepare_allocation() attempts for one job on one worker must leave
hlimits[worker]->count == 1 and one staged copy of the vres in
alloc_req.host. RED before the fix (Expected 1 Was 2), GREEN after; full
scheduler suite 86/86 (asan).
Still open (bug-1846 part 2, logged in buglog): 9 live-recorded rounds end
after 11-12 decisions while replay processes the whole candidate list; not
root-caused, needs the live scheduler.log or a fresh capture.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
sched_record_session_add_decision() (recording_session.c) grows its
per-round decisions array via realloc(), doubling from 8. On a failed
growth it silently dropped the current decision and every one after it
that round, without marking the round incomplete -- finalize() then
wrote the short array as an ordinary, apparently-complete ReplaySession.
--sim-verify's replay comparison had no way to distinguish that from a
genuinely smaller live round, producing spurious "expected: <none>"
mismatches for jobs that were, in reality, correctly decided live and
simply never recorded. Live scheduling itself was unaffected either
way -- only the .replay file's own record of that one round lost its
tail.
This refutes the leading theory from the prior investigation (replay
seeing a job's first appearance "one round early" via coarser event
batching in sim_loop.c) -- confirmed via targeted diagnostic
instrumentation against the original captured .replay file: replay
deterministically reproduces the full candidate set every round;
the recording itself has the one-round gap.
Fix: track truncation on the session ctx; finalize() now refuses to
write an incomplete session and fails loudly through the same
sched_record_abort_on_error() path every other recording failure in
this subsystem already uses.
TDD: added a regression test forcing a real, deterministic realloc()
failure via -Wl,--wrap=realloc (scoped to this one test binary --
no prior malloc/realloc fault-injection harness existed in this
codebase). Verified genuine red -> green: the test fails without the
fix, passes with it. Full 85/85 scheduler suite green.
Note: this prevents future recordings from losing decisions this way;
it cannot retroactively repair an already-captured .replay file.

core_clock.c joined the mechanically-enforced isolation archive
(sched_core_isolation_lib) and its own doc comment claimed coverage by
the forbidden-headers/forbidden-symbols text scans, but was actually
absent from both -- only the nm(1) undefined-symbol layer covered it,
which cannot catch a forbidden #include resolving to no undefined
symbol (a macro-only header).
Added XCE_CORE_CLOCK_C_PATH (meson.build, mirroring the existing
per-file path macros) and extended both
test_core_never_includes_forbidden_headers() and
test_core_never_calls_forbidden_symbols() to scan core_clock.c. It
remains excluded only from the wall-clock scan, for its one sanctioned
clock_gettime() call.
TDD: confirmed RED by temporarily inserting a forbidden #include into
core_clock.c (84/85, correctly attributed failure), reverted
(byte-identical to HEAD), reconfirmed GREEN (85/85). No live violation
existed -- this closes a coverage gap in the mechanism itself.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01RLSNJhNoULvVcUhXEFafQC
Adds the feature's concrete original acceptance test: a genuine
capnp-encoded .replay (real ReplayHeader/SnapshotEntry/Conf4Sched with
one global and one host-scoped limit), driven end-to-end through the
real, unmodified sched_sim_driver_run(). The dispatched job's usage
registers against both limits via limit_get_configured_limits()/
limit_get_usage_instances() -- the same accessors info limit reads --
proving real, non-zero usage where today's REPL previously showed none.
RED-phase evidence: reverting task 4.3's 4 files to their pre-fix
commit reproduces the exact predicted failure (host-scoped usage
missing, global usage intact); restoring to HEAD reproduces GREEN.
Closes bug-1826 (the bug this whole feature was built to fix) --
buglog entry updated from NOT FIXED to FULLY FIXED, citing this test.

Adds two new fixtures spawning the real sched_job_picker/sched_allocator
thread pair directly against bare normal-mode and sim-mode core state
under genuine resource contention (2.0 capacity, 3 jobs x 1.0 demand),
asserting identical admission decisions and identical accounting state
(job->accounts, w->resInUse), with and without a matching host-scoped
limit. The pre-existing test_sim_contention_parity.c could not be reused
since its white-box stubs hard-code the old always-PEND behavior and
never exercise live election/allocation.
Confirms build_limit_vres_requests()/get_vres_value() (plugins/limit.c)
are #if 0'd dead code with zero live callers -- no limit in this codebase
currently gates/denies admission in either mode, only tracks/displays
usage -- so this proves usage-tracking parity, documented explicitly as
an honest scope boundary rather than a silent narrowing.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01RLSNJhNoULvVcUhXEFafQC
Fully closes bug-1829's own tracked follow-up from task 4.1: retypes
seqjob_allocator.c/parjob_allocator.c's init_fn AND runtime hooks
(prepare_allocation_hook, job_alloc_fn) to read the plugin's own
honest plugin->core field (task 1.2) instead of deriving an
xce_scheduler_t* from plugin->sched -- mirroring task 2.3's limit.c
migration exactly. The gap was broader than initially scoped: not
just init_fn, but every runtime hook independently derived sched from
plugin->sched on each allocation attempt.
Adds seqjob_allocator_new_plugin()/parjob_allocator_new_plugin()
factories (plugin.h, mirroring limit_new_plugin()), letting
sim_alloc.c's bootstrap functions register both plugins DIRECTLY
against &(sim->core) via the existing plugin_register_core() -- the
same call sim_bootstrap_picker()/sim_bootstrap_limit_plugin() already
use. Task 4.1's throwaway xce_scheduler_t wrapper is gone from the
plugin-registry/fan-out path entirely; plugin_prepare_allocation()'s
fan-out during a live seqjob/parjob dispatch now genuinely reaches
sim->core.plugins, the same registry the limit plugin is registered
in.
One narrow, necessary exception remains, independently verified
confined: my_alloc() still needs a small xce_scheduler_t wrapper
(only .core.resmgr aliased to sim->core) to satisfy sched_make_allocs()
(scheduler.c, out of this task's boundary, unmodified) -- set on
plugin->sched only AFTER plugin_register_core() has run, never read by
the plugin registry or any prepare_allocation_hook fan-out.
TDD: new test_sim_alloc_limit_fanout.c drives a real live dispatch
(sched_job_picker()/sched_allocator() thread pair) with a host-scoped
limit registered directly against sim->core, proving a real usage
instance is created -- isolated from both reconciliation and
global-limit matching. RED: dispatch succeeded but the usage-instance
iterator was empty. GREEN: 82/82, zero regressions.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01RLSNJhNoULvVcUhXEFafQC
Replaces sim_picker_thread_fn() (the always-PEND placeholder) with the
real sched_job_picker()/sched_allocator() threads (task 3.1), spawned
against &(sim->core) in sched_sim_driver_run(). Simulation mode now
genuinely uses the jbuf capacity-1 rendezvous for the first time
(confirmed still exactly one producer/one consumer). Adds
sched_election.c to sched_sim_isolation_lib.
Fixes bug-1829 (blocking, only reachable once sim_allocator() actually
called sched_make_allocation() for the first time): core->seqjob_
allocator/parjob_allocator were never bootstrapped for simulation mode
at all. Fixed via new sim_alloc.c (sim_bootstrap_seqjob_allocator()/
sim_bootstrap_parjob_allocator()), mirroring the sim_picker.c/
sim_limit.c precedent.
That fix's own workaround -- a throwaway xce_scheduler_t wrapper
satisfying seqjob/parjob's init_fn -- has a documented, narrow side
effect: prepare_allocation_hook fan-out during a live seqjob/parjob
dispatch attempt reaches the wrapper's own separate plugin registry,
not sim->core.plugins, so a plugin registered only against the real
sim core (the limit plugin) isn't reached for host-scoped matching
during a live dispatch yet. Documented in design.md's new "Known Seam
Gap" section; task 4.3 added to tasks.md to close it before task 5.2's
acceptance test can pass for the host-scoped case.
TDD: new end-to-end test drives a real .replay with an empty decisions
array (ruling out reconciliation) through the real thread pair,
proving a genuine DISPATCH from live resource availability. 25
pre-existing white-box sim/repl test files given link-satisfying
stubs reproducing the OLD always-PEND contract unchanged -- their own
assertions are untouched (task 5.3's job to reconcile deeper).

Relocates sched_job_picker()/sched_allocator() out of scheduler.c
(1382 lines, already over this project's 800-line cap) into a new
sched_election.c, retyped to xce_sched_core_t* -- the single
implementation both drivers will spawn (task 4.1 wires simulation
mode onto it). Independently verified bit-for-bit identical to the
pre-relocation bodies modulo the sched->/core-> rename; no statement
reordered, no branch changed.
sched_make_allocation() becomes extern (was static, sole caller moved
translation units); the old commit_decision() thin wrapper is deleted,
its sole caller now calls sched_commit_decision() directly with
identical semantics. sched_init() updated to spawn the relocated pair
against &(sched->core).
Adds an end-to-end fixture test proving a job flows from picked to a
committed decision against bare (non-xce_scheduler_t) core state.
Routes around, rather than fixes, two pre-existing out-of-boundary
gaps this fixture exposed (seqjob/parjob allocator init still reading
plugin->sched; make_sched_job()'s parse path not threading
maxtasks/mintasks) -- both documented in the test's own comments for
future follow-up.
sched_election.c added to the normal build only; sched_sim_isolation_lib
membership deferred to task 4.1, which is where sim mode actually
starts spawning these threads.

Re-types plugin_job_election()/plugin_prepare_allocation()/
plugin_commit_decision() from (void* arg, ...) to (xce_sched_core_t*
core, ...), iterating core->plugins directly instead of deriving it
from a normal-mode-only driver struct -- mirroring
plugin_begin_session()/plugin_end_session()'s already-completed
migration.
Adds a new, honestly-typed xce_sched_plugin_t.core field, set by both
plugin_register() (normal mode) and plugin_register_core() (simulation
mode, closing a gap left since bug-1825 where this path set nothing).
The existing plugin->sched field and its plugins/fcfs.c legacy
consumer are left untouched.
Necessarily updates the 4 existing normal-mode call sites (scheduler.c,
resource.c, schedobj.c) to pass &(...->core) -- a C signature migration
cannot keep the build green without touching every caller in the same
commit; each fix is a minimal argument wrap with no algorithm change,
matching design.md's own Implementation Notes for this component.

repl_info_limit() (repl_info.c, not yet wired into repl_cmd_info() -- that's
task 4) resolves "all" vs a specific name against limit_get_configured_limits():
a NULL/empty handle on the all path reports "no limits configured" (Req 1.7);
a NULL handle or key_find() miss on the named path reports "no such limit
'<name>'" (Req 1.3) and never collapses into the all-only message. New
white-box test_repl_limit_table.c exercises both paths directly, including a
dedicated regression guard for the NULL-scoping rule.
Making repl_info.c genuinely call limit_get_configured_limits() broke the link
for ~24 other white-box test files that #include repl_info.c without also
linking plugins/limit.c -- fixed with the same link-satisfying-stub idiom this
file family already uses elsewhere (all return NULL, verified behavior-
preserving since none of these fixtures register the limit plugin).

Extends test_maxtasks_wiring_ingest.c with two tests: (1) a resource-
request update never changes a job's already-dispatched task count,
because core_events.c's live JOB_UPDATE handler never rebuilds
job->schedobj (Requirement 1.4); (2) two otherwise-identical jobs
differing only in requested task count don't collide in the
unsatisfiable-resource-request cache on the fresh-ingest path
(Requirement 5.4).
Adds a new file, test_maxtasks_wiring_sim_driver_parity.c, proving the
simulation driver's real static translator chain
(sim_process_replay_event_message()/replay_event_to_core_event())
applies this feature's wiring identically to the real driver -- a
genuine white-box test of the real sim_loop.c code (following
test_sim_event_loop.c's established #include technique), not a mirror
of its logic. This was split into its own file because
test_maxtasks_wiring_ingest.c already links the full scheduler_srcs
object list for its own task-3.1 test, which collides at link time
with white-box #include-ing core_events.c/sim_loop.c in one
translation unit; see tasks.md's Implementation Notes.
No production code changed.

Adds test_maxtasks_wiring_ingest.c proving: (1) fresh ingest's
dispatched primary resreq reflects a real multi-task job's requested
count via the real core_build_job()/JOBS_PUSH path; (2) fresh ingest
and snapshot-restore ingest derive the identical task count for an
equivalent job, asserted both against expected constants and via
direct cross-comparison (Requirement 5.6); (3) a single-task job
reaches identical real host-selection/allocation behavior through the
live allocator dispatch chain, proving the feature is a true no-op
for maxTasks==1 (Requirements 3.1/3.2). No production code changed --
tasks 2.1/2.2 already wired the fix; this adds cross-call-site and
behavioral proof neither of those isolated tests attempted.
