The buglog was one 27K-line JSON file whose fields covered only symptom,
root cause and fix, as free text: 2% of entries named the code version a
bug was found on, 12% the build profile, 36% a way to reproduce, and 58% of
the file was OpenWolf hook auto-detections ("Missing guard clause",
"Function not marked async" on .md files).
- .claude/skills/buglog/bug-record.md: the record standard. Eight
sections (Summary as the title, Description, Environment, Reproduction;
Root cause, Fix, Verification, References once fixed), each with the
content it must contain -- e.g. Environment needs the OS, the libc the
failing binary loads (from its ELF interpreter: glibc 2.42 in the nix
shell vs 2.40 on the host), toolchain, build profile and commit.
- .wolf/bugs/<id>.md: 500 records migrated from buglog.json; every field
verified to round-trip. They carry legacy: true and an explicit "not
recorded" where the old log had no such field; component derived from
file paths, severity from keywords (else unknown), fix_commits from
hashes in status_note/fix that git resolves (91 of 463 fixed).
- .wolf/buglog-archive.json: the 710 hook auto-detections, verbatim.
- .wolf/buglog.json is now an index generated from the records, keeping
the fields OpenWolf's hooks and `openwolf bug search` read.
- scripts/buglog.py rewritten: new (template + Environment collected from
the machine and --binary), check, status (refuses a status the record
doesn't support; fixed needs Root cause, Fix, Verification and
--commit hashes git resolves), note, recur, set, show, list, triage,
env, index. 29 unittest cases in scripts/tests/test_buglog.py.
- scripts/git-hooks/pre-commit runs `check --staged`: incomplete staged
records, a legacy record hand-changed to fixed without the fix-time
sections, a new record claiming legacy: true, or a stale index refuse
the commit.
- scripts/gitea-sync.py reads the records: issue body = the record's
sections plus linked fix commits (origin remote, GITEA_COMMIT_REPO to
override), and a body hash so an issue's text is refreshed when the
record changes.
- bug-1866 rewritten to the full standard as the worked example.

bug-1560: test_recordstart_symlink_escape_replies_error (src/scheduler/testsuite/test_admin_request.c:850)…
Description
test_recordstart_symlink_escape_replies_error (src/scheduler/testsuite/test_admin_request.c:850) FAILED: Expected 'invalid record file name' Was 'permission denied accessing record file'. Surfaced only now because bug-1559's fix made xce-build.sh's scheduler case run the full meson test --suite scheduler for the first time -- this test was never reached by the old sched_test-only invocation.
Environment
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
Reproduction
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
Root cause
Not yet investigated. Test plants a symlink inside record_dir whose target resolves outside record_dir, then issues a recordStart admin request expecting rejection with error string 'invalid record file name' (the canonical-path containment check). Instead the admin path is returning a 'permission denied accessing record file' error, implying some permission-check code path is being hit and short-circuiting before (or instead of) the containment check in this sandbox environment (uid 1000, non-root) -- ordering between the two checks in recording.c not yet confirmed by direct read. Unrelated to component-failover-adoption / bug-1548/1549/1558/1559 -- discovered purely as a side effect of bug-1559's coverage-gap fix making this test reachable.
[UPDATE 2026-08-30] ROOT-CAUSED, confirmed by direct code reading and cross-checked against a sibling unit test. sched_validate_record_filename() (recording.c)'s canonical-path containment check (path_is_contained() branch, hit when a pre-existing symlink inside record_dir resolves outside it) deliberately returns -EACCES, not -EINVAL -- -EINVAL is reserved for Step 1's malformed-filename check (bare '/' or '..' in the filename itself, rejected before any filesystem access). This is NOT environment-dependent (not a uid-1000-vs-root permission-check ordering issue as originally suspected) -- test_recording_path_validation.c's own direct unit test for the identical scenario (test_symlink_inside_record_dir_escaping_outside_is_rejected) already asserts TEST_ASSERT_EQUAL_INT(-EACCES, rc) and has always passed. The bug was purely in test_admin_request.c's test_recordstart_symlink_escape_replies_error, which asserted the wrong expected error string ("invalid record file name", the -EINVAL string) against production code that has always, correctly, returned -EACCES ("permission denied accessing record file") for this exact scenario.
Fix
FIXED (2026-08-30). Corrected test_recordstart_symlink_escape_replies_error's expected error string in src/scheduler/testsuite/test_admin_request.c from "invalid record file name" to "permission denied accessing record file", matching the already-correct, already-independently-verified production behavior. No production code changed -- this was purely a wrong test assertion, not a real product bug (the symlink-escape IS correctly rejected; only the test's expectation of WHICH rejection string was wrong). Verified: full meson test --suite scheduler run clean, Ok:55 Fail:0, all 55 test binaries pass including sched_admin_request_test (16/16 cases in test_admin_request.c PASS).
Verification
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
