The buglog was one 27K-line JSON file whose fields covered only symptom,
root cause and fix, as free text: 2% of entries named the code version a
bug was found on, 12% the build profile, 36% a way to reproduce, and 58% of
the file was OpenWolf hook auto-detections ("Missing guard clause",
"Function not marked async" on .md files).
- .claude/skills/buglog/bug-record.md: the record standard. Eight
sections (Summary as the title, Description, Environment, Reproduction;
Root cause, Fix, Verification, References once fixed), each with the
content it must contain -- e.g. Environment needs the OS, the libc the
failing binary loads (from its ELF interpreter: glibc 2.42 in the nix
shell vs 2.40 on the host), toolchain, build profile and commit.
- .wolf/bugs/<id>.md: 500 records migrated from buglog.json; every field
verified to round-trip. They carry legacy: true and an explicit "not
recorded" where the old log had no such field; component derived from
file paths, severity from keywords (else unknown), fix_commits from
hashes in status_note/fix that git resolves (91 of 463 fixed).
- .wolf/buglog-archive.json: the 710 hook auto-detections, verbatim.
- .wolf/buglog.json is now an index generated from the records, keeping
the fields OpenWolf's hooks and `openwolf bug search` read.
- scripts/buglog.py rewritten: new (template + Environment collected from
the machine and --binary), check, status (refuses a status the record
doesn't support; fixed needs Root cause, Fix, Verification and
--commit hashes git resolves), note, recur, set, show, list, triage,
env, index. 29 unittest cases in scripts/tests/test_buglog.py.
- scripts/git-hooks/pre-commit runs `check --staged`: incomplete staged
records, a legacy record hand-changed to fixed without the fix-time
sections, a new record claiming legacy: true, or a stale index refuse
the commit.
- scripts/gitea-sync.py reads the records: issue body = the record's
sections plus linked fix commits (origin remote, GITEA_COMMIT_REPO to
override), and a body hash so an issue's text is refreshed when the
record changes.
- bug-1866 rewritten to the full standard as the worked example.

bug-1296: 10-round chaotic soak FAIL at round 7: all 3 nodes in RDHUP→PreVote→timeout→repeat livelock — zero…
Description
10-round chaotic soak FAIL at round 7: all 3 nodes in RDHUP→PreVote→timeout→repeat livelock — zero pre_vote_reply_in events (not denials, silence). ctrl-3 sent 20+ PreVote rounds with NO reply received; ctrl-1 and ctrl-2 same loop. Rounds 1-6 PASS clean (all elections + job-verification succeeded); round 7 kills ctrl-2 (term=9 primary), restarts ctrl-3 (no convergence wait — chaotic). 2 surviving nodes (ctrl-1, ctrl-3) both start PreVote; neither processes the other's request → mutual timeout → RDHUP fires again → repeat forever.
Environment
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
Reproduction
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
Root cause
TASK 5.6 dueling-candidate PreVote cross-denial — DISTINCT from the earlier PreVote-WINS + real-election split-vote (which had both nodes winning PreVote then deadlocking in RequestVote). Here PreVote itself starves: each node's PreVote handler likely drops/ignores inbound PreVote requests while in its own PreVote round (no reply sent, not even denial). The task 5.6 RDHUP guard (commit 25e741d+) only prevents restarting failover while in CTRL_ELECTING — it does NOT fix the core problem where two nodes enter simultaneous PreVote rounds and each starves the other's reply. The priority stagger (bug-606) helps when 3 nodes are alive (one grants to break symmetry), but with only 2 survivors (the third restarting without convergence in chaotic mode), both deny each other and the stagger is insufficient.
Fix
FIXED 2026-06-30 (subsumed by tasks 5.6 commit 81cb09a + 5.7 commit 74784b2). The RDHUP->PreVote->timeout liveloc was the same fixed-watchdog resonance as bug covered by 5.7: per-campaign election watchdog re-randomized to [T,2T] (Ongaro 3.4) + don't-preempt-in-flight-election (5.6). CONFIRMED by a 10-round chaotic soak: 10/10 rounds elect a new primary in a single term increment (4->13), zero term escalation, round 7+ (the old liveloc point) all clean.
Verification
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
