The buglog was one 27K-line JSON file whose fields covered only symptom,
root cause and fix, as free text: 2% of entries named the code version a
bug was found on, 12% the build profile, 36% a way to reproduce, and 58% of
the file was OpenWolf hook auto-detections ("Missing guard clause",
"Function not marked async" on .md files).
- .claude/skills/buglog/bug-record.md: the record standard. Eight
sections (Summary as the title, Description, Environment, Reproduction;
Root cause, Fix, Verification, References once fixed), each with the
content it must contain -- e.g. Environment needs the OS, the libc the
failing binary loads (from its ELF interpreter: glibc 2.42 in the nix
shell vs 2.40 on the host), toolchain, build profile and commit.
- .wolf/bugs/<id>.md: 500 records migrated from buglog.json; every field
verified to round-trip. They carry legacy: true and an explicit "not
recorded" where the old log had no such field; component derived from
file paths, severity from keywords (else unknown), fix_commits from
hashes in status_note/fix that git resolves (91 of 463 fixed).
- .wolf/buglog-archive.json: the 710 hook auto-detections, verbatim.
- .wolf/buglog.json is now an index generated from the records, keeping
the fields OpenWolf's hooks and `openwolf bug search` read.
- scripts/buglog.py rewritten: new (template + Environment collected from
the machine and --binary), check, status (refuses a status the record
doesn't support; fixed needs Root cause, Fix, Verification and
--commit hashes git resolves), note, recur, set, show, list, triage,
env, index. 29 unittest cases in scripts/tests/test_buglog.py.
- scripts/git-hooks/pre-commit runs `check --staged`: incomplete staged
records, a legacy record hand-changed to fixed without the fix-time
sections, a new record claiming legacy: true, or a stale index refuse
the commit.
- scripts/gitea-sync.py reads the records: issue body = the record's
sections plus linked fix commits (origin remote, GITEA_COMMIT_REPO to
override), and a body hash so an issue's text is refreshed when the
record changes.
- bug-1866 rewritten to the full standard as the worked example.

bug-1840: Live 3-node HA cluster crash (same soak run as bug-1839): xce_scheduler SIGABRT, glibc…
Description
Live 3-node HA cluster crash (same soak run as bug-1839): xce_scheduler SIGABRT, glibc malloc_consolidate(): unaligned fastbin chunk detected, surfacing during an OpenSSL TLS handshake's MAC-buffer growth: abort -> malloc_printerr -> malloc_consolidate -> _int_malloc -> __libc_malloc2 -> CRYPTO_malloc -> CRYPTO_clear_realloc -> BUF_MEM_grow_clean -> mem_write -> bwrite_conv -> BIO_write -> ssl3_finish_mac -> tls_get_message_body -> state_machine -> handle_ssl_handshake (netio.c:548) -> io_handler (netio.c:588) -> io_worker_dispatch_batch (netio.c:648) -> io_worker (netio.c:689).
Environment
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
Reproduction
- Attempts: 0/1 ASAN run, 2026-09-25: 3-node HA + worker + scheduler, 8 waves x 6 concurrent 'jobsub -a 50' (2400 elements) on the current ASAN build -- no AddressSanitizer report from the scheduler; plus ~10 ASAN HA soaks today (sequential/chaotic, all with scheduler replay-verify) with no scheduler heap error
Root cause
NOT YET DIAGNOSED -- heap corruption detected far from its cause; a corrupted fastbin chunk was only found during an unrelated later malloc_consolidate() call, inside an OpenSSL TLS handshake on the scheduler's io_worker thread. The actual out-of-bounds write that corrupted the allocator's freelist could have happened in any thread, any amount of time earlier, and is not reconstructable from a non-ASAN build.dbg core dump -- there is no shadow memory, no poisoning, nothing to localize it to a specific allocation or write site. Confirmed directly via gdb against the real core file (/tmp/core.xce_scheduler, build cd9ecb41): the crashing frames' locals (malloc_consolidate's av/fb/p) are all optimized out / no debug symbols available for glibc or libcrypto/libssl in this environment, so there is nothing further to extract from the core itself beyond the symbol-only backtrace already captured. Needs an ASAN reproduction of the same 3-node HA deploy soak scenario to catch the actual out-of-bounds write with a real stack trace.
Fix
NOT FIXED -- awaiting an ASAN repro. Recommended next step: /xce-build scheduler asan (or bash src/tools/xce-build.sh scheduler asan), then rerun the same HA deploy scenario that produced /tmp/core.xce_scheduler until ASAN aborts at the real corruption site, which will pinpoint the actual overflow/write instead of just its downstream symptom.
Verification
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
