The buglog was one 27K-line JSON file whose fields covered only symptom,
root cause and fix, as free text: 2% of entries named the code version a
bug was found on, 12% the build profile, 36% a way to reproduce, and 58% of
the file was OpenWolf hook auto-detections ("Missing guard clause",
"Function not marked async" on .md files).
- .claude/skills/buglog/bug-record.md: the record standard. Eight
sections (Summary as the title, Description, Environment, Reproduction;
Root cause, Fix, Verification, References once fixed), each with the
content it must contain -- e.g. Environment needs the OS, the libc the
failing binary loads (from its ELF interpreter: glibc 2.42 in the nix
shell vs 2.40 on the host), toolchain, build profile and commit.
- .wolf/bugs/<id>.md: 500 records migrated from buglog.json; every field
verified to round-trip. They carry legacy: true and an explicit "not
recorded" where the old log had no such field; component derived from
file paths, severity from keywords (else unknown), fix_commits from
hashes in status_note/fix that git resolves (91 of 463 fixed).
- .wolf/buglog-archive.json: the 710 hook auto-detections, verbatim.
- .wolf/buglog.json is now an index generated from the records, keeping
the fields OpenWolf's hooks and `openwolf bug search` read.
- scripts/buglog.py rewritten: new (template + Environment collected from
the machine and --binary), check, status (refuses a status the record
doesn't support; fixed needs Root cause, Fix, Verification and
--commit hashes git resolves), note, recur, set, show, list, triage,
env, index. 29 unittest cases in scripts/tests/test_buglog.py.
- scripts/git-hooks/pre-commit runs `check --staged`: incomplete staged
records, a legacy record hand-changed to fixed without the fix-time
sections, a new record claiming legacy: true, or a stale index refuse
the commit.
- scripts/gitea-sync.py reads the records: issue body = the record's
sections plus linked fix commits (origin remote, GITEA_COMMIT_REPO to
override), and a body hash so an issue's text is refreshed when the
record changes.
- bug-1866 rewritten to the full standard as the worked example.

bug-1445: A node's very first promotion-eligibility evaluation in a fresh process runs before that node's…
Description
A node's very first promotion-eligibility evaluation in a fresh process runs before that node's own first persist_recover()/replay_wal() call, so the Live Apply Resource Fence (job-array-single-wal-record tasks 4.1-4.3, extended to boot replay by task 7.2) is invisible to that one specific check. A node that would otherwise correctly fence itself non-promotable on a resource-exhaustion apply failure during its first-ever boot replay can instead pass its first promotion check looking fully eligible, because the fence flag hasn't been set yet at the point that first gate runs.
Environment
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
Reproduction
Not recorded (migrated from buglog.json).
Root cause
ha.c's promotion-gate eligibility check (ha.c:1303-1408) runs before persist_recover()'s first-ever replay_wal() call (ha.c:1427-1439) on a freshly-started process. Every promotion evaluation AFTER a process's first one is correctly protected (persist_apply_resource_fenced() is threaded into both the periodic fence-release check and the election-time check per task 4.3) -- this is a narrow ordering gap specific to the single very-first evaluation of a brand-new process, discovered and documented (not fixed) during job-array-single-wal-record task 7.2's own review, out of that task's persist.c-only file boundary.
Fix
FIXED and VERIFIED (2026-07-17, src/controller/ha.c). raft_cb_become_leader()'s is_first_boot block now re-checks persist_apply_resource_fenced(&c->persist) immediately after cluster_init_phase2() completes (the call that triggers this process's own first persist_recover()/replay_wal()) -- if that first replay just engaged the fence, promotion is refused (same pattern as the pre-existing refusal branch: WARN log + ha_arm_promotion_fence_timer() + return), instead of falling through to CTRL_PRIMARY on a decision made before that first replay ever ran. Every later election is unaffected -- is_first_boot is false by then, so the earlier eligibility gate (ha.c:1337) already covers it correctly. Scope check: confirmed ha_elect_evaluate_and_signal (the OTHER election path, ha.c ~5030) is dead in production for the promotion outcome -- every live call site of handle_request_vote_reply passes vote_granted=0 (bug-828 already redirected the real grant-recording path to the record-only ha_record_vote_reply, which never signals it) -- so raft_cb_become_leader is confirmed the sole live promotion path and this fix's scope is complete, not partial. TDD: new test test_first_boot_promotion_evaluates_own_first_replay_fence (src/controller/testsuite/test_job_array_replay_fence.c) wires ha_phase2_hook to a stub that calls persist_recover() for real, reproducing production ordering exactly (a never-recovered persist_t entering the election path with ha->phase2_done==0) -- RED-confirmed failing pre-fix at the exact predicted assertion (role_after_election==CTRL_PRIMARY), GREEN-confirmed passing post-fix. Full controller_unit_test binary (bundles every testsuite/test_*.c including test_convergence_verification.c, test_ha_cluster.c, test_p1_integration.c) green: 16/16 tests in this file, 0 regressions cluster-wide.
